    Position Details:


    One temporary, hourly position, 32-40 hours per week, working no more than 175 days in a fiscal year (July - June 30) between the Oceanside Campus, Community Learning Center in Oceanside, and San Elijo Campus in Cardiff.

    The work schedule may be split and offered to more than one person.

    The ideal work schedule will be Monday through Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm.

    Work schedule may change in 2024 to accommodate increased operation hours of Monday through Thursday 8:00 am - 7:00 pm and Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm; however, there is some flexibility regarding the schedule if the individual selected can work until 7:00 pm, Monday through Thursday, and up to 40 hours per week.


    Example of schedule changes for 2024: Monday through Thursday 8:30 am - 7:00 pm with Friday's OFF; Monday through Thursday 10:30 am - 7:00 pm, and Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm; or Monday through Wednesday 10:00 am - 7:00 pm, Thursday, 10:30 am - 7:00 pm, and Friday 8:00 am - 3:00 pm.


    The Campus Assessment, Resources, & Education (CARE) Program is looking to start this position as early as October 2023 through June 2024 (potential opportunities to extend assignment contingent on performance).


    The Campus Assessment, Resources, & Education (CARE) Program was established in Fall 2019 to provide holistic resources and support to MiraCosta students who experience basic needs insecurity.

    These basic needs include food, housing, transportation, and more.

    The CARE Team works to address these basic need insecurities through a culture of care and support to assist students in reaching their academic and personal goals.

    RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT:

    MiraCosta College Board Policy 7800:

    Employee Residency requires all classified staff, administrators, and temporary/hourly short-term employees to maintain and permanently reside in a principal place of residence in the state of California that is within two-hundred (200) road miles from the employee's regularly assigned district worksite.

    The purpose of the policy is to promote efficiency and continuity throughout all campus administrative functions, provide students with high quality assistance and accessibility to all academic and campus services, ensure that students receive an engaging education, and respond to emerging student needs.


    The District may consider an individual request to temporarily reside outside of the State of California or outside the 200-mile limit on a case-by-case basis, not to exceed twelve consecutive months.

    Compensation:
    $19.50 per hour.

    Employees must make arrangements for the direct deposit of paychecks into the financial institution of their choice, via electronic fund transfer.


    Benefits:
    Short-term, temporary employees may be eligible for Healthy Families Sick Leave, and enrollment in a retirement system.

    Basic Function:


    Under direction from the Student Services Coordinator, the Campus Aide III will support the CARE Program in procuring and rescuing food donations that assist in meeting students' basic needs.

    Food rescues occur when local food retailers (i.e., grocery stores, fast food, etc.) have food items to donate to local organizations (i.e., MiraCosta College) that must be picked up and distributed in a timely manner.


    The Campus Aid III will be responsible for retrieving and delivering, loading/unloading an average of pounds of food items to the Campus Food Pantry location sites.

    The Campus Aid III will assist in supporting coverage of the campus food pantry, assist with operations of the food distribution, and/or other CARE-related events as needed.


    Distinguishing Characteristics:

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
    The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed.

    The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the assignment if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment.

    1) Procure and/or rescue food to supply the Campus Food Pantry from local food retailers, grocery stores, and community pantries.

    2) Frequently lift up-to 50 pounds per box/crate worth of food items to and from agency vehicles and/or within the food pantry.

    3) Weigh, categorize, and hand-load boxes of an average of pounds of food items into a vehicle.

    4) Evaluate and make sound judgment calls on the quality of food donations received to discard or decline any items seemingly or in inedible conditions.

    5) Submit District Vehicle Reservations to maintain reliable transportation for food procurement or rescue.

    6) Utilize District Vehicles such as Hi-Cube Box Truck, Vans, or SUVs for the purposes of transporting food.

    7) Provide receipts and other documentation to CARE Outreach Aid to submit for budgetary purposes.

    8) Provide a clean, safe, and efficient operation of the Campus Food Pantry including reorganizing and stocking pantry shelves.

    9) Prepare documentation including but not limited to food/supply inventory and temperature control logs.

    10) Serve as a Volunteer Lead during food distribution events including but not limited to managing check-in tables, assembly line, traffic control, and other roles.

    11) Answering questions from students about accessing the Campus Food Pantry, food distribution events, referral process to CARE, and other general campus questions.

    12) Provide timely communication to co-workers and supervisors.

    13) Additional projects as assigned by Student Services Coordinator or CARE Manager.

    Education & Experience:
    To be eligible for this position, you must meet and provide evidence of the following minimum qualifications:
    1) Education equivalent to high school graduation.

    2) Be 18 years of age or older.


    3) Valid California driver's license, and DMV record may not show any convictions during the previous three-year period (please see ).


    Desirable Qualifications:
    1) Knowledge of basic needs insecurity, including food insecurity, housing insecurity, childcare, etc.

    2) General knowledge of food handling safety procedures or possession of food handlers certificate.

    3) Experience managing a delivery schedule or delivery driving experience.

    4) Experience working for or volunteering at a non-profit setting that provides food (i.e., Food Bank or Pantry).

    5) Bilingual in English and Spanish.

    6) Associates or Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Public Health or other related fields.


    Licenses & Other Requirements:
    A valid California driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the district's vehicle insurance program.

    Heavy physical labor with constant standing and walking for extended periods; walking over rough or uneven surfaces; frequent pushing, pulling, lifting and carrying of heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds; frequent bending, stooping and kneeling; repetitive use of upper extremities on a regular basis; manual dexterity to safely operate motorized equipment and vehicles; ability to operate an electric cart to pick up/deliver supplies to campus locations; ability to travel to various locations on and off campus as needed to conduct district business.

    Working Conditions:


    Intermittent outside environment in weather conditions including rain and extreme heat; exposure to sun for extended periods of time; work on slippery or uneven surfaces; work while wearing personal protection equipment including back brace and/or protective gloves; May work at any district location or authorized facility during day and/or evening hours with occasional evenings and/or weekends on an as-needed basis.
