    Job Summary :

    The Director of Transportation is responsible for managing the movement of goods from vendors around the globe - focused on the flow of product to US ports and domestic transportation to our customers The Director of Transportation will also be responsible for determining cost-effective methods of transportation through cost negotiations and a formal RFP process when appropriate.

    Essential Responsibilities :

    • Contract negotiations / RFP analysis for all modes of transportation - Freight Forwarding, Domestic LTL & FTL, and Small Parcel
    • Facilitate clear communication and data integrity to multiple teams - including Supply Chain, Finance, Customer Service, Sales, and Operations.
    • Provide leadership monthly/quarterly analytics on inbound and outbound costs, freight forwarder and domestic carrier performance and projected changes in rates or surcharges.
    • Working directly with carrier partners on strategic initiatives for optimizing LCC, cost per 100#, cost per mile, and other key metrics related to outbound transportation.
    • Ensure domestic carriers service parameters meet required standards for positive customer impact through effective lane optimization, shipment days to service and minimal to no damage rates.
    • Effectively manage all aspects of our TMS system, ensuring appropriate system capabilities that includes, adequate carrier options, maximized lane dates and lane optimization and accurate cost and customer charges tables within the framework and overall flexibility for adaptations.
    • Core competency around Freight Pay & Audit practices, along with Claims Management processes to ensure proper recovery rates as it relates to cost management.
    • Point of Contact for freight forwarding partners to drive cost optimization, container flow, & strategic projects such as LCL consolidation / groupage.
    • Leverage technology and potential 3rd party expertise to streamline and automate supply chain/transportation processes and visibility.
    • Partnering closely with Director of Procurement and EVP of Operations on key initiatives to enhance visibility reporting and data analysis that drive company alignment on procurement strategies.
    • Supports DC operations on container flow for containers to the DC from port and provides consistent trackability of all inbound containers.
    • This role will be focused on all aspects of transportation for the combined PGS business of HF and Stone Source SBU's.
    • May perform other duties as assigned.
    Supervisory Responsibilities:

    This position will be a individual contributor and may develop into direct supervisor responsibilities with 2 - 3 direct reports.

    Minimum Requirements:
    • Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • 10+ years' transportation, supply chain logistics experience preferably with RFP and contract negotiations.
    • Knowledgeable in carrier lane optimization & TMS options for domestic transportation.
    • Knowledge of SAP Business one or Microsoft Great Plains or a similar ERP.
