    JOB PURPOSE:


    Providesspeech-language pathology services by coordinating consultationsand diagnostic evaluations with patients having known or suspectedcommunication disorders and/or oropharyngeal dysphagia; andinterpreting assessment data; planning and performingspeech-language pathology treatment intervention programs whenappropriate that restore function, prevent disability and helppatients reach maximum potential.

    Provides patient care to all agegroups to include neonate, pediatric, adult and geriatric.
    Responsible for the supervision of rehabilitation technicians,students, and observers. May be responsible for orientation andongoing guidance of assignedstaff.
    Qualifications:


    MINIMUM EDUCATIONREQUIRED:

    Masters Degree in Speech-LanguagePathology/Communication Disorders from an accredited graduateschool. Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the AmericanSpeech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).

    MINIMUMEXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

    None.
    MINIMUMLICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW:

    Licensure by theGeorgia Board of Examiners of Speech/Language Pathology. BLScertification through AHA or ARC.

    KEYRESPONSIBILITIES:


    • Provides professional speech-languagepathology services to all age groups, to ensure quality of patientcare and to restore function.
    a. Maintains patient recordincluding evaluations, plan of care, treatment goals, and progressnotes, documenting patient responses to treatment and patenteducation. Uses objective data with clear and concise language inthe patient record.
    b. Provides direct patient care,utilizing modalities and techniques appropriate for patients fromneonates to geriatrics. Demonstrates skills and accuracy inperforming patient care, conducting tests and measurements asappropriate.

    • Assists with measuring quality andoutcomes.
    • Consults with physicians, nursing staff, andother rehabilitative team members to determine plan of action forthe patient including therapeutic modifications and dischargeplanning.
    • Maintains and documents active and supportivecommunication with the patient, and other appropriate persons,concerning progress, problems, home programs, and other issuesrelated to the therapeutic process.

    Possess instructional skills and knowledge ofeducational techniques.
    Possess leadership skills incritical thinking.
    Must have the ability to communicateeffectively, verbally and in writing, with other healthcarepersonnel, patients, families, and physicians.
    Must havethe emotional stamina to deal with a variety of stressfulsituations including emergency response to patientincidents.
    Requires tact, discretion, diplomacy, andability to work effectively with others.
    Has an abilityto evaluate and/or interpret information and make independentdecisions.
    Must have sensory skills to differentiateclinical signs and symptoms.
    Possesses appropriateinterpersonal and organizational skills.
    Must be able toread, write, speak and understand the English language.

    Must be able to organize work, to delegate effectively, and todirect and oversee the work of assistants, techs, and otherhealthcare providers.
