    The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for IT Technician 2, Office of Information Technology [R0139698].

    ROLE of the POSITION

    This position will provide front-line, multi-tier support for UNLV's Learning Management System (LMS), Canvas, and related teaching and learning technologies in addition to standard help desk requests.

    The Essential Functions of the position include:

    • Staff the IT Help Desk, responding to customer needs and requests during assigned shifts that include regular business hours, evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays
    • Provide dedicated support for the campus LMS and related technologies, manage requests, assignments, and documentation according to unit procedures
    • Assist LMS Administrator with communications, testing, or changes as assigned
    • Deliver LMS instructional or informational content to faculty as assigned
    • Provide excellent service to the campus faculty, staff, and students

    This is a full-time position and the schedule will include shifts that cover help desk phones during our extended hours (7am – 11pm), including weekends and holidays. Flexible availability is required including holidays and weekends.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    Graduation from high school or equivalent and three years of experience utilizing the fundamentals of typical computer systems, operating systems, applications, and peripherals, one year of which must have included IT work experience in a user support role; OR one year of relevant experience as an IT Technician I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

    REQUIRED ENTRY LEVEL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    Working knowledge of: computer hardware, software, peripherals, and current computer technology and trends; help desk applications as used for change/problem management. General knowledge of: commercially available operating systems and applications used by the agency; principles and practices of a computer system and peripheral devices as needed to operate and monitor a system; user password security principles and practices. Ability to: communicate with a higher-level IT staff member and the user to facilitate resolution of computer problems; monitor inventory and request supplies; plan, layout, and record technical material in order to produce requested documents; and all knowledge, skills, and abilities required at the lower levels.

    • Prior experience supporting a Learning Management System (LMS)

    SALARY

    Grade 28 Step 1, salary $43, "Step" means the number assigned by the Division of Human Resource Management to identify a specific rate of pay within a grade. Per Nevada Administrative Code (NAC , salaries for initial appointments for classified positions typically begin at Step 1.
