    The Labor and Delivery nurse assumes responsibility and accountability for the application of the nursing process and the delivery of patient care in the L&D Setting.


    The Labor and Delivery nurse demonstrates the ability to make clinical judgments in an effective and efficient manner with supervision.

    The labor and delivery nurse works with Mothers during the final stages of pregnancy helping with birthing, monitoring the Mother's vital signs, and becoming astute in signs and symptoms of possible complications.


    The labor and delivery nurse is involved in patient education and addressing the psychosocial needs of Mothers after delivery and demonstrates critical thinking and performance ability in the coordination of patient care.


    Consistently performs according to nursing standards and is accountable in managing patient care and assisting others in the management of patient care.


    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
    Utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care
    Assess signs and symptoms indicating physiologic and psychosocial changes in the patient's condition
    Collects, analyzes, and interprets data and information from healthcare members and documents actual and/or potential nursing diagnoses
    Plans for expected outcomes of care for those patients assigned
    Performs interventions according to identified priorities, plan of care, and the hospital policies and patient care outcome standard
    Provides a safe, comfortable and therapeutic patient environment
    Uses clinical judgment in the evaluation of activities to meet patient care needs of an assigned unit/floor including establishing priorities
    Monitors the safety and effectiveness of the environment and equipment
    Promotes interpersonal relations with patients/family/significant others, hospital healthcare coworkers, and physicians
    Uses effective communication skills with all contacts while being objective and sensitive
    Communicates pertinent information about patient, nursing unit, and activities as appropriate
    Monitors vital signs for the mother and baby
    Administers medication as ordered
    Monitors contractions and fetal heart rate
    Identifies complications during labor and delivery
    Communicates the mother's condition and needs to the physician
    Coaches the mother during labor and delivery and provides emotional support
    Caring for the mother after she gives birth
    Performs other duties as assigned/necessary


    Minimum Requirements:
    Current Registered Nurse license within the state of practice.?
    One year of Labor and Delivery clinical experience within the last three years preferred.?
    Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice
    Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicable
    Current CPR if applicable
    TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
    Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)
    Must meet all federal, state and local requirements
    Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site
    Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements
    Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is required
    Computer proficiency required
    Must be at least 18 years of age
