    SUMMARY:


    Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the academic subject area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth.

    Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society. Provide instruction and coach students to develop skills and ability to excel in sport assigned. Contribute to education program as a whole and to growth of students involved in athletics.

    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
    Instruction and Athletic (Sport Assigned) Program Management


    • Develop and implement lesson plans for in-person learning that fulfill the requirements of District's curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in individual student differences.
    • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, equipment, and technology that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned and present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
    • Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
    • Work cooperatively with Special Education Teachers to modify curricula as needed for Special Education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
    • Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
    • Plan and assign work to instructional aide(s) and volunteer(s) and oversee completion.
    • Establish performance criteria for competition and manage sport activities, contests, and practice sessions to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, and good sportsmanship. Model performance criteria and perform physical movements required for successful student performance of sport.
    • Maintain an active program that promotes good sportsmanship and student development including the time, resources, and materials to support accomplishment of department goals.
    • Establish and maintain physical and academic eligibility requirements for participation in each sport and verify each athlete's eligibility.
    • Use a variety of instructional and coaching techniques to meet the needs and improve the abilities of student athletes in the sport of football.
    • Take all necessary precautions to protect student athletes, equipment, materials, and facilities.
    • Work with other members of school staff to plan and implement instructional goals and objectives to ensure the overall educational development of student athletics.
    Student Management and Organization


    • Implement the policies established by federal law, state law, State Board of Education rule, UIL rules, and local board policy in area of athletics.
    • Follow District safety protocols and emergency procedures.
    • Implement District student management policies, communicate expected student behavior related to athletics, and ensure enforcement of student discipline in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
    • Accompany and supervise student athletes during games both at-home and on out-of-town trips.
    • Instruct and advise students on National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) regulations with regard to academic requirements for scholarships and recruiting practices.
    Communication


    • Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open lines of communication on vital issues with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.
    Community Relations


    • Articulate the District's mission and goals in the area of athletics to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission.
    • Demonstrate awareness of District and community needs, initiate activities to meet those needs, and use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
    • Support athletic booster club activities.
    Professional Growth and Development


    • Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
    • Comply with State, District, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
    • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
    Other


    • Maintain confidentiality.
    • Develop and maintain systems for retrieval of information in support of all programs; compile, maintain, file, and secure all physical and computerized reports, records, and other required documents.
    • Pursue Professional Development activities for self and assigned staff; ensure that Professional Development activities are aligned with District goals and initiatives and current professional research.
    • Comply with all policies, operating procedures, legal requirements, and verbal and written directives.
    • Comply with the Professional Code of Ethics and Standard Practices for Texas Educators.
    • Follow District safety protocols and emergency procedures.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education/Certification:

    • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university
    • Valid Texas Teaching Certificate
    • Current first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and automated external defibrillator (AED) certificate
    • Clear and valid Texas commercial driver's license with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements (preferred)

    Experience:

    • Three (3) years coaching experience at the 5-A - 6-A level
    • Ability to develop, implement and maintain a highly competitive program
    • Successful classroom teaching experience

    SPECIAL KNOWLEGDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

    • Knowledge of overall operations of an athletic program
    • Knowledge of coaching techniques and procedures
    • Knowledge of federal, state, and UIL policies governing athletics
    • Ability to instruct and supervise student athletes
    • Ability to implement policy and procedures
    • Ability to interpret data
    • Excellent public relations, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
    • Knowledge of core academic subjects
    • Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
    • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
    • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to pass U.S. Department of Transportation alcohol and drug tests and annual physical (include if bus driving duties are required)

    MENTAL/PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:

    • Athletic equipment and other instructional equipment

    • Frequent driving and may operate a school bus
    • Personal computer, phone systems, video/instructional equipment, and peripherals

    • Prolonged sitting and standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

    Motion:

    • Frequent walking; repetitive computer work with frequent use of hands and wrists
    • Frequent physical movements associated with sport; moderate grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension and reaching

    Lifting:

    • Frequently light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); occasional moderate lifting and carrying pounds)

    Environment:

    • Work to be completed on-site from assigned school or building
    • Regular exposure to noise and computer monitors
    • No remote work
    • Frequent districtwide and statewide travel

    Mental Demands:

    • Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress work; prolonged or irregular hours
