    This position will serve multiple schools across Yadkin County Schools.

    Job Summary

    The School Social Worker plays a vital role in helping students and families make the most of available opportunities and resources, ultimately empowering each student to reach their full potential. This position requires the necessary professional skills to assist students and communities in resolving problems and conflicts in a safe and healthy manner.

    Key Responsibilities

    1. Problem Identification: Identify definite and identifiable reasons why some students are not successful in school and exhibit undesirable behavior, including at-risk factors, dropping out, and truancy.
    2. Family Support: Assist families in alleviating adverse conditions to promote resiliency and academic success for at-risk students.
    3. Resource Utilization: Help parents use school and community resources to maximize their child's educational abilities.
    4. Collaboration: Coordinate, plan, and participate in parental involvement activities with the school to create positive academic and social outcomes for students.
    5. Liaison Services: Serve as a liaison between students, homes, schools, family services, child guidance clinics, courts, protective services, doctors, and other contacts to support children facing challenges like disabilities, abuse, or poverty.
    6. Case Management: Provide short-term and long-term case management services to individual students.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    1. Social Work Methods: Employ appropriate social work methods in situations affecting the student's educational process.
    2. Counseling: Counsel students whose behavior, school progress, or mental or physical impairment indicate a need for assistance, diagnosing problems and arranging for needed services.
    3. Attendance Promotion: Promote regular school attendance.
    4. Collaboration with Parents and Teachers: Consult with parents, teachers, and other school personnel to determine causes of problems and implement solutions.
    5. Homeless Student Support: Provide appropriate services for homeless students.
    6. Safe and Caring Schools: Promote safe, caring, and drug-free schools.
    7. Community Referrals: Refer students to community agencies as needed.
    8. Parental Responsibility: Promote parental responsibility for regular school attendance.
    9. Other Duties: Perform other related duties as assigned.

    Requirements

    • Licensure: Possess a bachelor's degree from a social work program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education, with a school social work practicum experience in a public school.
    • Desirable Qualification: Hold a master's degree from a social work program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education, with social work experience working in a PreK-12 public school or equivalent.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Job Knowledge: Demonstrate knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions, and for career counseling and guidance.
    • Specific Competencies: Possess specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job, including codes, policies, regulations, and laws.
    • Skills: Exhibit the ability to use logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
    • Work Complexity/Independent Judgement: Demonstrate the ability to identify developmental needs of others and coach, mentor, or otherwise help others improve their knowledge or skills.
    • Problem-Solving: Identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
    • Communication/Interactions: Exhibit the ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences, and communicate effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience.
    • Customer Relationships: Demonstrate knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services, including customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.

    Physical Requirements

    Frequent sitting, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, carrying, reaching, handling, and repetitive fine motor activities. Hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone. Vision: frequent near acuity and occasional far acuity. Mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard office equipment.
