Forensic Psychology Fellow Position at Central State Hospital

The Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) is looking for qualified candidates for the role of Forensic Psychology Fellow at Central State Hospital in Milledgeville, GA.

Central State Hospital (CSH) houses Georgia's most secure forensic hospital, situated in the Payton B. Cook building in Milledgeville. CSH caters to individuals referred by the criminal justice system for pre-trial psychiatric evaluation and/or inpatient treatment, those deemed not guilty by reason of insanity or mentally incompetent to stand trial, and those admitted for psychiatric evaluation and treatment on hold orders from jails.

• Utilize reference materials to identify symptoms, make diagnoses, and develop treatment approaches
• Provide counseling to individuals and groups to address issues like stress, substance abuse, and family situations
• Create and implement individualized treatment plans
• Assess the effectiveness of counseling and modify plans as necessary
• Identify psychological, emotional, or behavioral issues and diagnose disorders
• Assist clients in setting goals and planning actions for personal development
• Observe individuals to detect indications of mental deficiency or maladjustment
• Collect and review medical, psychological, social, and family histories
• Offer occupational and educational guidance to help individuals make plans
