Job Summary:
The Dean is the chief administrative and academic officer of the College of Arts and Sciences and reports to the Provost. The Dean shall work effectively with the administration, faculty, students, staff, and other stakeholders to achieve the mission, goals, and objectives of the university and the College of Arts and Sciences. The Dean has overall responsibility for compliance with University policies and procedures and state or federal mandates for responsibility areas, and shall provide leadership in the areas of teaching, scholarly and creative activities, and service. These tasks are to be performed in a manner that professionally, cordially and efficiently assist the students, faculty, staff and visitors who come in contact with this College.
Description of Job Duties:
- Direct the operations of the College, working with SWOSU administration and faculty of the College of Arts and Sciences to ensure that the mission, goals, and objectives of the college are realized.
- Responsible for the effective and efficient development and utilization of the College's budgetary funds, including oversight and accountability for budgetary record keeping and usage of monies.
- With faculty, set the vision and course of the College to meet the needs of its students, faculty, and staff to ensure quality educational outcomes.
- Seek out and engage alumni of the College to build mutually beneficial relationships and enhance the visibility of the College.
- Work with the faculty, administration, and accrediting bodies to maintain good accreditation standing.
- Cultivate positive relationships with donors and raise private funds for the College in conjunction with the SWOSU Foundation.
- Serve as an advocate for the College in relations with SWOSU administration and professional organizations.
- Promote a positive image of SWOSU through participation in community and professional organizations, representing SWOSU at professional meetings and on community committees, and establishing and maintaining credible relations with various news media.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Available to assist with emergency situations during or after working hours whether in-person, by phone or email contact.
- Assist other departmental staff as needed.
- Promote personal safety, safety procedures and a safe work environment.
- Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
Terms of Employment:
- Twelve-month status.
- Expectation of on-campus presence with attendance and punctuality.
- Full-time, exempt status.
- Wage to be established by SWOSU's wage structure.
- Maintaining faculty status is negotiable.

Education and Experience
Education and Experience:
- Successful completion of a terminal degree in a discipline represented in the College or equivalent professional experience is required.
- A proven record of academic leadership, teaching, research, scholarship, and service is required.
- Previous experience and demonstrated evidence of successful supervisory and administrative experience is required. University experience in a managerial role is preferred.
- Excellent written, verbal, grammatical, and interpersonal skills are required.
- Must be willing and able to perform job related travel. Must maintain a current and valid Oklahoma Driver's License.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the President of SWOSU or his/her designee may find appropriate.

- Has actively sought to learn new things on own initiative. Has responded positively to change and adapted to new situations quickly. Able to take on a diverse range of tasks equally effectively.
- Remains knowledgeable on/about applicable regulations, policies, and protocols.
- Maintains composure in highly stressful or adverse situations.
