The Opportunity at Volta Charging

As a Software engineer at Volta Charging, your primary responsibility would be to design, develop and maintain services across the software platform that powers the company's electric vehicle (EV) charging and media infrastructure. This platform includes a variety of systems, including cloud-based software, mobile applications, and distributed services within the charging stations themselves.

You would also be responsible for ensuring that services adhere to our scalability, security, and reliability best practices, and that it integrates seamlessly with other systems within the company's ecosystem.

Where you fit in:

• Work with cross-functional teams to integrate a third party Charge Point Management System (CPMS) into our system
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to other engineers on the team, helping them learn and adopt new technologies and best practices.
• Backend Development: Taking a leading role in developing and maintaining the backend systems and services for Volta's EV charging and Media platform using across our platforms
• API Development: Building and maintaining RESTful APIs that allow the front-end applications to interact with the backend services.
• Database Management: Designing and managing databases to store critical data related to charging stations, user information, and advertising data.
• Integration with EV Charging Hardware: Collaborating with hardware teams to integrate software with EV charging stations, enabling them to communicate with the backend.
• Code Review and Quality Assurance: Conducting code reviews to maintain code quality and consistency across the development team.
• Technology Research: Staying up-to-date with the latest advancements in , server technologies, and best practices, and evaluating how they can be applied to enhance Volta's platform.
• Collaboration and Teamwork: Working closely with cross-functional teams, including frontend developers, product managers, and DevOps, to deliver cohesive and high-quality solutions.

What we need from you:

• Strong experience in building, scaling and maintaining cloud-based applications using AWS services and tools.
• Expertise in infrastructure as code (IaC) tools such as AWS CloudFormation, AWS CDK, or Terraform, and the ability to design, develop and maintain IaC templates.
• Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Python, Typescript, or Go, and the ability to write clean, modular, and maintainable code.
• Strong understanding of software engineering best practices, such as code reviews, automated testing, and continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD).
• Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes, and the ability to design and manage container-based workloads.
• Knowledge of networking and security principles, and experience implementing and managing secure cloud architectures.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
• Experience leading projects or mentoring junior engineers is a plus.

• Become a mentor for other members of the team

Volta is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices.

The pay range for this role is $162,000 - $220,000. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location. This may be different in other locations due to differences in the cost of labor.

The total compensation package for this position may also include discretionary performance bonus, benefits and/or other applicable incentive compensation plans.
