    Summary of Position

    Red Rocks Community College seeks applications for a full-time faculty position to join our Emergency Medical Service Department.

    This is a full-time, 164-day academic year appointment that is focused around the 16.5-week Fall semester (August to December) and 16.5-week Spring semesters (January to May).

    The position begins in August 2024, but an earlier start is negotiable.

    The successful candidate willfulfill the teaching, professional development, and service obligations of full-time faculty in the Emergency Medical Services department at the College in accordance with the philosophy, policies, and procedures of the Colorado Community College System and Red Rocks Community College.

    A faculty assignment is comprised of two parts, one being the predominant duties as a teacher, which may include program coordination/development and the other is professional development and service obligations

    Essential Responsibilities

    Instruction:

    Teach day, evening, or weekend courses and/or teach in any modality including in-person classroom-based courses, hybrid, remote, hyflex, concurrent, or online, ensuring that all courses meet the approved course outcomes and outlines.

    Instruction duties and responsibilities center on teaching excellence, which can include:


    • Learning and applying culturally responsive education and inclusive learning environments into classroom instruction and curriculum.
    • Demonstrating equity and inclusion skills that are measurable, student-focused, and support equity in achieving learning outcomes.
    • Active student engagement that empowers learners to think critically and achieve academic, professional, and personal goals.
    • Robust instructional content that is thought-provoking, current and relevant.
    • Meaningful assessment and timely feedback related to student progress in achieving learning outcomes.
    • Continuous improvement of teaching and learning through evidence-based practices, reflection, innovation, and collaboration; and other College priorities.
    Simulation


    • Assist other faculty, staff, and students in all simulation events.
    • Contribute to the development of patient case scenarios, innovative education techniques, and the use of equipment necessary for all simulated patient experiences.
    • Prepare and apply moulage to patient simulators and live patients for simulated events.
    • Operate patient simulators for simulated patient events.
    • Oversee equipment setup and breakdown, including setting up patient simulators, task trainers, and associated equipment.
    • Assist with maintenance and repair of simulation equipment.
    • Assist in the orientation of other faculty and students to the various simulation equipment used in the EMS program.
    • Participate in healthcare simulation education training and provide support to faculty and instructors in all aspects of simulation-based education.
    • Assist with programming, testing, and running healthcare simulation scenarios, including equipment, manikins, and live patients.
    • Consult with other faculty members on the appropriateness of simulations and ensure the accuracy of the simulations to achieve learning outcomes.

    Service:
    Service includes fulfilling the mission and goals of the College outside of the classroom.

    These may include but are not limited to:

    • Departmental service, including curriculum coordination and development.
    • Advising and outreach.
    • Administrative assignments and committee work at a campus- level, college, or System-wide.
    • Sponsoring and participating in student activities or community service events related to the College and tied to personal professional goals and job responsibilities.
    Professional development activities are a part of service


    Activities include:

    • Continuous improvement in teaching.
    • Best practices in higher education as related to college initiatives.
    • Maintaining expertise in the field.
    • Personal enrichment in higher education structure or leadership.
    • Professional Development: A commitment to ongoing professional development, including staying current with developments in the field, and participating in training opportunities, is important for maintaining excellence in teaching and mentoring.
    Additional activities may include serving as the College representative on a local board or commission, making community or professional presentations, serving as a liaison to local schools, or serving as an elected or appointed member of local boards as a representative of the College

    Qualifications

    Required Qualifications:

    Associate degree or higher from an accredited institution in Emergency Medicine, Education, Nursing, Healthcare, Biology, Fire Science, or a closely related field with no less than 30 credit hours of coursework specific to healthcare or emergency services.


    • Current certification as a Paramedic or RN (and ability to gain Colorado certification/licensure within 3 months of employment).
    • Has, or qualifies for, post-secondary CTE credential including 4,000 paid non-teaching occupational hours within the last five (5) years.
    • Membership in or demonstrated experience working with diverse communities and supporting the success of individuals from racial, ethnic, and gender backgrounds that are underrepresented


    Education/Experience Substitution (if applicable):A combination of education and directly related technical/professional work experience may be substituted on a year for year basis.

    Years of experience is in addition to any required years of experience for the position. Part time experience will be prorated.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    A bachelor's degree or master's degree from an accredited institution in Emergency Medicine, Paramedicine, Education, Nursing, Healthcare, Biology, Fire Science, or a closely related field with no less than 30 credit hours of coursework specific to healthcare or emergency services.


    • Current Colorado Paramedic or RN.
    • Current Colorado CTE credential with endorsements appropriate for EMS. Completion of the Colorado State EMS Instructor courses. Current ACLS, PALS, and CPR instructor certifications. One semester experience as an EMS educator in the classroom, laboratory, and clinical setting.
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience as an active Paramedic or ED RN in the patient care setting (3 or more years if the candidate possesses a Bachelor's degree or higher).
    • Evidence of a strong commitment to effective teaching at the community college and an understanding of its philosophy, role and mission. Experience with program assessment, strategic planning, and grant funded initiatives.
    • Proficient in curriculum development, supervision, instruction, evaluation, and academic advising.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

    Ability to work from campus (primarily our Lakewood campus with occasional hours at the Arvada campus).Knowledge and proficiency in state and national EMS regulatory requirements and education standards at all levels.

    Demonstrated ability to work with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds and typically underrepresented groups. Demonstrated ability and willingness to teach students using traditional and alternative methods of instruction. Demonstrated ability to integrate technology into the classroom where appropriate.
    Experience with the setup, breakdown, moulage, and operation of equipment used in simulations. Ability to learn new technology. Fundamental knowledge of computer hardware and software.
    Knowledge of computer applications. Interpersonal, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Knowledge of instructional objectives and course development techniques. Skills with managing, preparing, and delivering courses in the classroom and in the field. Ability to give and receive oral and written instructions and procedures. Have some knowledge working with D2L or a similar LMS.

    Physical and Cognitive Demands:
    The following are some of the physical and cognitive demands commonly associated with this position.


    • This position operates in a standard office and/or classroom environment. Constantly uses a computer and routinely uses standard office equipment including phones, copiers, etc. Requires the repetitious movement of hands, wrists, arms.
    • Cognitive demands include comparing, copying, computing, compiling, analyzing, coordinating, synthesizing, negotiating, communicating, instructing, and interpersonal skills.
    • The person in this position constantly communicates with internal and external constituents and students. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
    • Occasionally moves, positions, and transports equipment and supplies weighing up to 10 lbs.

    Starting Salary:
    Starting salary is determined by education and experience in accordance with our compensation plan.
