Job Description:
Schnabel Engineering is seeking a Staff Engineer to join our growing practice in Michigan, ideally located in the Gladstone, MI area with the ability to travel to our Lansing, MI or Marquette, MI offices periodically. We are looking for a motivated candidate with an interest in developing both field and analytical skills, a passion to continue to develop as a professional, and a desire to be part of a strong team.
Job Responsibilities:
- Work with project teams on civil, geotechnical, geological, or mining engineering projects that involve CAD design, construction oversight, field work, data evaluation, engineering analysis and report preparation
- Assist in planning and performing geotechnical investigations and analyses
- Assist in preparation of reports, plans, and specifications
- Observe and log soil borings and/or rock core
- Conduct field assignments, such as site mapping
- Observe construction and perform materials testing, when needed. Material testing could include concrete testing, soil compaction, etc.
- Assist in performing field inspections
- Assist in performing analyses and design calculations
Required Skills/Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil, Geological, or Mining Engineering or equivalency
- Detailed oriented with strong analytical skill and a positive attitude as well as the ability to work both independently and on teams
- A willingness to perform a variety of assignments on short notice is valuable
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Time management and organizational skills
- Ability to excel in a hybrid work environment
- It is also beneficial to be comfortable in remote settings, with a can-do attitude, and a willingness to perform a variety of tasks as needed to complete an assignment and satisfy project demands
- Desire and willingness to work outdoors and travel within Michigan and nationwide
- Engineer in Training with the ability to receive a Professional Engineering License within 4 years
Desired Skills/Experience:
- Relevant internship experience
- 1-2 years of relevant industry experience
- Geotechnical exploration experience including drilling supervision, soil logging and classification
- Strong computer skills and experience with industry standard commercial computer software including: Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and/or various engineering software
Other Requirements:
- Ability to pass a background check which may include criminal history, motor vehicle record and credit check
- Ability to pass a pre-employment screening
The compensation range for this position is between $57,200 to $86,000. Compensation for this position may vary based on geographic location and other factors. We remain committed to providing competitive and equitable compensation to all employees, regardless of their location.
