Job Title: Senior Automation Engineer
Location: Normal, IL – On-Site (Plant Floor) Employment Type: Full-Time
Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Automation Engineer to join our team. This role is a hands-on position requiring a significant presence on the plant floor to lead the design, development, and implementation of advanced industrial control systems. The ideal candidate will bridge the gap between complex software logic and mechanical execution, specifically leveraging deep expertise in Beckhoff TwinCAT 3 and Ignition HMI to enhance manufacturing productivity and system reliability.
Core Responsibilities
- PLC/DCS Programming: Develop and maintain sophisticated control logic programs for PLCs (specifically Beckhoff) and distributed control systems (DCS), ensuring seamless integration with plant machinery and vision inspection systems.
- HMI Development: Build and optimize high-performance HMI/SCADA interfaces using Ignition to provide real-time data visualization and control for operators.
- Technical Documentation: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to create detailed technical documentation
- Troubleshooting & Maintenance: Conduct root cause analysis on automation-related issues, troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and software components to minimize production downtime.
- Lean & Compliance: Lead lean manufacturing initiatives to identify inefficiencies and implement innovative solutions aligned with company standards
- Validation & Commissioning: Perform system validation activities including testing, commissioning, calibration, and validation documentation in compliance with industry regulations.+1
- Mentoring: Work with Jr. Engineers and provide learning opportunities and path toward advancement.
- Training: Conduct comprehensive training sessions for operators and maintenance personnel on new systems to ensure safe operation and optimal performance.+1
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related field.
- Beckhoff Expertise: 2–5 years of proven experience specifically with Beckhoff TwinCAT 3 programming and architecture.
- Ignition Experience: Professional experience developing and deploying Ignition HMI/SCADA solutions.
- Robotics: experience with robotics programming and integration within a manufacturing setting is preferred
- Mechanical Aptitude: Strong mechanical knowledge, including tooling design, machining processes, and the ability to read and interpret complex schematics, wiring diagrams, and blueprints.
- Environment: Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced plant floor environment and leading onsite installation and maintenance activities.
Pay: $170, $210,000.00 per year
