The Department of Corrections is looking to hire an Accounting Officer This position provides professional-level accounting support for the Department of Corrections.
This position will assist, monitor, analyze, and review regional payroll records and business expenses to ensure policies and procedures are being followed in a timely and accurate manner.
They will also provide leadwork direction to other employees engaged in fiscal operations.Minimum Qualifications
To be qualified for and considered for this position, applicants must meet all of the minimum qualifications listed below.
Ensure that your resume contains descriptions of your work experiences sufficient for comparison against the requirements stated below and indicate the beginning and ending month and year for each job held.
One (1) year of accounting experience in preparing and interpreting fiscal reports; preparing and posting fiscal transactions; reconciling accounts, budgets, grants and/or spending plans, processing payroll or other related accounting functions.
A bachelor's degree in the above may substitute for 1 year.
All applicants will be further assessed based on:
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices and bookkeeping sufficient to analyze and interpret fiscal information, records and reports; locate errors; and recommend solutions to procedural or other fiscal problems.
Knowledge of budget terminology and principles sufficient to assist in preparing a division or agency budget.
Skills in using the Statewide Integrated Financial Tools (SWIFT) or other accounting system sufficient to query and compile records and reports and assist with the preparation and maintenance of spending plans, financial status reports and budget requests.
Skills using spreadsheet and word-processing software sufficient to prepare fiscal reports and correspondence.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Ability to research, interpret, analyze and explain state laws, policies, rules, regulations and procedures as they relate to fiscal operations.
Ability to design, interpret and explain work procedures and operations and provide advice on fiscal policies and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
The following qualifications are strongly desired of applicants seeking consideration for this position:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or Finance.
Experience in State government accounting
One or more years of experience processing employee payroll for a large (e.g. 150 or more employees) governmental agency or large business organization.
Experience with reconciling financial information.
Knowledge of statements and other guidance from the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB).
Skills in using Crystal Reports software and/or other data extraction software.
Ability to be highly organized, determine priorities, balance a variety of duties at the same time, and work under time pressure
