    Opening Date: 03/12/2024INTRODUCTIONPlease note the following:Base Annual Salary $103,284 - $125,556Base Annual Salary + 10% PE Certification Premium $113,612 - $138,111Under direction of the Public Works Director, performs difficult and complex administrative and professional engineering duties in support of the City's engineering services and activities including planning, designing, and implementing various complex capital improvement projects; to act as a technical and administrative advisor; to supervise projects and other department personnel as assigned; reviews plans, designs, and specifications and recommends changes for compliance; ensures project completion in a timely and cost effective manner; evaluates projects and provide solutions to ensure compliance with applicable criteria, regulations, and codes; and responds to questions and inquiries from the general public, property owners, developers, architects, surveyors, contractors, and City staff.

    Associate Engineer Job Flyer EXAMPLES OF DUTIES Performs a variety of difficult and complex professional civil engineering functions involved in the design and preparation of plans, specifications, and cost estimates for public works projects including street, storm drain, sanitary sewers, vehicle maintenance, parks, building, street lighting, traffic signal systems and related projectsAssists with implementation of the city-wide Capital Improvement Program and associated projects; researches projects for design requirementsPerforms project management functions for complex and difficult projects including preparing and monitoring budgets, preparing designs and specifications, reviewing and tracking the progress and work of consultants and contractors, monitoring the project schedule, administering permits, ensuring compliance with specifications, preparing budget, progress and status reports, and recommending modifications as necessaryPerforms complex calculations and prepares estimates of time and material costs; prepares requests for proposals and evaluates responses; prepares and administers contracts and specificationsPerforms special engineering studies and prepares reportsInvestigates field problems affecting, and responds to complaints regarding, maintenance operations, property owners, and contractorsMay participate in the administration of special assessment and improvement districtsAssists in administration and preparation of operating and capital improvement budgetsPrepares and checks legal descriptions for deeds, easements, and rights-of way; may act as survey party chiefPrepares a variety of difficult engineering reports, studies, and technical documentation including reports for City Council and Public Works CommissionSupervises assigned projects and personnel and may lead the work of other department personnelRepresents the City at various meetings and committees regarding the implementation of projectsResponds to questions and inquiries from the general public, property owners, developers, architects, surveyors, contractors and City staff regarding engineering and development projectsCoordinates assigned activities with other divisions, departments, and outside agenciesAttends and participates in professional group meetings; maintains awareness of new trends and developments in the field of engineering.

    Knowledge of:

    A typical way to obtain this required knowledge would be:
    Educational equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or closely related field and five years increasingly responsible experience in professional civil engineering work in Public Works or municipal engineering

    Licenses/Certificates:

    Possession of or ability to obtain an appropriate, valid California Driver's License with a safe driving record is required and must be maintained as valid during the course of employment.

    Possession of a valid California Engineer-in
    • Training (EIT) Certificate or registration as a California Professional Engineer.

    See in the normal visual range with or without correction

    Hearing:
    Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.

    Work Days:
    Monday through Thursday, 7:00am to 6:00pmBi
    • Annual Merit Pay: You may be eligible for a quarterly merit pay bonus of up to 5% of your quarterly base pay earnings.
    In order to receive merit pay, you will provide a detailed outline of goals that have been met for each quarter.


    Educational Allowance:
    The City agrees that employees who desire to enroll in training and/or academic courses at a State of California approved and/or recognized college or university that may provide the employee with general or specific skills and/or knowledge that contributes to their ability to perform their current position or enhances promotional opportunities shall have their course fees, books, and tuition for any CSU campus rates paid by the city (employee who attend a non-CSU campus will receive up to the average of CSULB, CSUDH, & CSULA), subject to approval of the City Manager

    Vacation Leave:
    1-3 Years of employment: 80 hours per year of Vacation Leave 4-5 Years of employment: 96 hours per year of Vacation Leave 6-9 Years of employment: 112 hours per year of Vacation Leave 10-13 Years of employment: 128 hours per year of Vacation Leave 14-17 Years of employment: 144 hours per year of Vacation Leave 18+ Years of employment: 160 hours per year of Vacation Leave

    Sick Leave:
    Employees will accrue 10 hours of Sick Leave per month

    Holidays:
    The City observes 12 holidays throughout the year

    Administrative Leave:

    You will receive 70 hours of Administrative Leave each calendar year; these hours do not accumulate or carry-over, it must be used each year.

    Your administrative leave bank will be prorated based on your date of hire.


    INSURANCEMedical:

    Employees receive up to $1,875.39 per month to purchase medical insurance; premium cost above this amount is paid by the employee.

    If you waive enrollment for medical insurance and show proof of coverage, you will be eligible for a cash-in-lieu benefit of up to $750.00 per month.


    Dental:
    Employees receive up to $226.30 per month to purchase dental insurance; premium cost above this amount is paid by the employee

    Vision:
    Vision insurance is available for purchaseLife: The City provides life insurance in the amount of 1X annual salary
