Description
Working under the direction of the Program Director the Faculty Member is responsible for managing the clinical education of the program in compliance with the current Accreditation Review Council on Education in Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (ARC/STSA) and CAAHEP standards and policies.
This individual shall participate in clinical scheduling, student clinical progress tracking, and on-site evaluations of students at clinical facilities on a regular and recurrent basis.
Clinical Education AdministrationUpholds program values, policies, and procedures.
Supervision, orientation, and evaluation of students in the clinical setting
Ensures ARC/STSA and AST minimum competency requirements are met by students.
Informed on ARC/STSA and CAAHEP accreditation standards and policies.
Prepares and coordinates clinical rotation schedules in conjunction with the Program Director.
Processes competency-based clinical evaluation forms for grade reporting purposes.
Discusses evaluation results with students and evaluating clinical preceptors. Reports mid-term and end-of-semester progress to the Program Director.
Maintains records of student attendance and clinical educational progress.
Records and files formal meetings with students.
Supervision and orientation of clinical preceptors.
Routinely meets and provides professional development for surgical technology program faculty members.
Conducts site visits to clinical affiliates.
Liaison between students, clinical preceptors, and hospital managers/supervisors.
Good customer relations skills; ability to be firm but compassionate.
Experience in easily handling constant change.
Ability to manage conflict.
Ability to maintain confidentiality in all personnel matters.
Additional Responsibilities
Participate in student selection.
Program Advisory Committee
Review and assist with program handbook revisions.
Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications
Faculty/instructional staff must be effective in teaching and knowledgeable in subject matter as documented by appropriate professional credential(s)/certification(s), education, and experience in the designated content area.
Be a graduate of an education program in surgical technology accredited by a nationally recognized programmatic accreditation agency; and
Possess a credential in the field of surgical technology through a national certification program that is accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCCA); and
Have a minimum total of two years of experience, either in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology, or a combination of both, within the past five years
