- Generates radiation therapy treatment plans in a timely manner using computer software and various imaging modalities, demonstrating strong attention to detail.
- Consults and communicates with the therapists regarding the implementation of the treatment plan including: the correct use of immobilization devices, field arrangement, and other treatment variables.
- Responsible for performing or supervising the design and fabrication of immobilization devices, beam modifying devices (i.e., compensating filters, bolus, molds, custom shields, etc.) and treatment planning aids.
- May use a wide variety of patient imaging modalities registered to the planning images which assists in the identification of physician delineated target structures and critical structures to be avoided.
- Responsible for performing accurate and timely patient e-chart processing, calculations, chart checks and supporting quality assurance activities.
- Performs routine duties independent of supervision but consults with the Radiation Oncologist and Medical Physicist as required.
- Maintains and demonstrates knowledge on all the latest guidelines, policies and procedures specific to medical dosimetry including but not limited to basic competencies, skill specific competencies, and institutional and departmental policies.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Certification as a Medical Dosimetrist by the Medical Dosimetry Certification Board ( MDCB ).
- Must maintain and provide official proof of MDCB certification on an annual basis.
- Proof of certification required in the form of official notification from the MDCB such as test results or official MDCB certification documentation.

Scope of Job
In collaboration with the radiation oncologist and medical physicist, use critical thinking and problem-solving skills to develop, generate, and evaluate treatment plans for radiation oncology patients using computer software and manual calculations based on prescribed target region and avoidance dose criteria to determine the optimal dose for patients.

Licenses/Certifications
Required Experience
Three (3) years of comprehensive clinical medical dosimetry experience. Proficient in planning VMAT , IMRT , SBRT , and 3D plans. Experience with Varian IX for Radiation, and EPIC .
Preferred Experience
Experience within a Varian linear accelerator environment. Experience with MIM and Radcalc.
Equipment
Use of standard office equipment. Use of various software related to duties performed such as: Mosaiq software, Dosimetry software, and Linac machines.
Working Conditions
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Healthcare/Patient care and Office Environment; some travel and weekend work is required. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which requires presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley.

Must be able to adapt to ever-changing technology and be open to learning new systems and techniques. Must be able to perform routine duties independent of supervision but consult with the Radiation Oncologist and Medical Physicist as required. Strong oral and written communication skills.
