    The University of Miami/UHealth UMHC/SCCC at the UHealth Campus has an exciting opportunity for a Dosimetrist.


    SUMMARY


    Works closely with medical physicists and radiation oncologists to develop the best radiation treatment plan for cancer patients by determining the level of energy needed in linear accelerators to shrink and eliminate tumors.


    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Designs a treatment plan (3DCRT, IMRT, VMAT, SRS, SBRT) with optimal beam geometry, to deliver a prescribed radiation dose.
    • Identifies and contours normal and dose-limiting structures by utilizing images from one or more data sets.
    • Creates and transfers reference images and localization markers for portal verification and treatment delivery.
    • Performs simulations and tumor localization using specified imaging devices.
    • Plans and implements the fabrication of compensation filters, custom shields, wedges, and other beam modifying devices.
    • Plans and implements the production of molds, casts, and other immobilization devices.
    • Communicates and advises the radiation oncology team regarding treatment plan implementation, including: the correct use of immobilization devices, compensators, wedges, field arrangement, and other treatment or imaging parameters.
    • Performs calculations for the accurate delivery of the prescribed dose, documents all pertinent information in the patient record, and verifies the mathematical accuracy of all calculations by an approved method.
    • Provides assistance and technical support to the Medical Physicist, in radiation safety and protection, qualitative machine calibrations, quality assurance of treatment plans and radiation oncology equipment.
    • Operates and performs quality assurance, under the direction of the Medical Physicist, on the treatment planning computer(s).
    • Assists in the receiving, loading, and shipping of radioactive materials.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Knowledge in the areas of anatomy, physiology, clinical oncology, radiobiology, radiation physics, and radiation safety.
    • Expertise in the technical aspects of radiation oncology and medical physics to develop optimal treatment plans.
    • Knowledge and ability to use linear accelerator machine equipment.
    • Proficiency in image registration with various image data sets to include CT, MRI and PET.
    • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
    • Critical thinking and problem solving skills.

    Education Requirements (Essential Requirements):

    • At least Associate (2-year) degree in a science-related field or completion of dosimetry training program (bachelors or master of dosimetry or certificate in degree).
    • Certified (or eligible) for certification by the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board.

    Work Experience Requirements (Essential Requirements):

    • Two (2) year of full-time relevant work experience or completion of clinical dosimetry training program in the field of Radiation Therapy required.
