- Performs manual labor tasks in order to maintain clean, safe, attractive and user-friendly City public gardens; maintains greenhouse, gardens, lawns, flower beds, and other cultivated areas as assigned; follows all safety rules and regulations to minimize risk of accidents.
- Assists with garden and greenhouse planting, soil preparations, and implementation of projects.
- Performs a variety of garden and grounds maintenance activities, including fertilizing, weed control, pest control, mowing, trimming and watering procedures.
- Cleans up trash and debris; prunes and trims bushes and flora; plants and extracts flowers and plant life; loads and hauls materials.
- Utilizes proper safety precautions in all work performed; reports problems and emergency situations; recognizes, avoids, and reports unsafe acts, conditions, accidents and injuries.
- Assures that hazardous materials are cleaned up in a timely manner and controlled according to City policy and procedures.
- Performs other related duties as required.
- Hours: Monday through Friday; 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (30-minute lunch). May work weekends, holidays, and some over-time as needed.
- Regular and timely attendance is required.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Must possess a valid Texas Driver License with a good driving record is required.
- Applicants with an out-of-state driver license must provide an original certified driving record from the state of driving licensure.

- Occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- Operating and maintaining power and hand tools and equipment in a safe and effective manner.
- Closely following verbal and written instructions and procedures.
- Work is performed outdoors; Ability to perform strenuous labor for extended periods of time; work in extreme weather conditions as needed, and lift and carry up to 94 pounds.
