    Position Overview

    ESA is looking for a dynamic candidate with excellent organizational and communication skills to support the administrative and logistical aspects of the ESA Panel on Vegetation Classification. The ideal candidate should have a basic understanding of ecology, biology, or environmental sciences. Specific interest or experience in vegetation ecology or ecosystem classification is a plus.

    The Program Associate will act as the primary liaison for the ESA Panel, responsible for scheduling and hosting meetings, coordinating logistics for peer review sessions, managing shared documents, updating websites, and creating promotional materials. Additionally, the Associate will assist in budget tracking, networking with scientists, and contributing to workshop/grant reports and presentations.

    Responsibilities

    • Organization and planning: Assist in coordinating meetings and workshops, manage virtual event logistics, schedule conference calls, and ensure smooth event operations.
    • Communications and writing: Take detailed notes during events, contribute to reports and presentations, liaise with participants, and assist in drafting grant proposals.
    • Outreach and marketing: Develop outreach materials, update websites, and collaborate on social media strategies.
    • Data entry: Handle travel reimbursements and monitor travel budgets.
    • Travel to at least two in-person meetings per year is required, including the annual ESA Meeting in August.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Required Qualifications

    • Passion or experience in environmental studies, ecology, or related fields.
    • Master's degree or Bachelor's degree with project management experience.
    • Facilitation experience in face-to-face or online settings.
    • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Great interpersonal skills and teamwork capability.
    • Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom).
    • Willingness to perform data entry and essential tasks.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Proficiency in WordPress or basic HTML.
    • Knowledge of US Vegetation classification and inventory basics.

    This part-time position offers the possibility of becoming full-time based on funding availability. It includes occasional travel and remote work opportunities, with a compensation ranging from $25 to $30 per hour depending on experience. The role provides excellent benefits.
