Job DescriptionGENERAL DESCRIPTION
Performs investigative work involving conducting investigations and interviews for pre-litigation property damage claims made against the State of Texas pursuant to the Texas Tort Claims Act.

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS
Investigator II:
Conducts investigations related to property damage claims asserted against the State under the Texas Tort Claims Act, reviews records, and verifies information
Contacts and interviews potential witnesses and complainants
Obtains, verifies, and records evidence and documents for use in investigations
Evaluates and summarizes investigative findings
Participates in settlement negotiations on claims asserted against the State and debts owed to the State
Prepares records, correspondence, and reports, including demand and denial letters, installment agreements, and settlement packages
Performs related work as assigned
Maintains relevant knowledge necessary to perform essential job functions
Attends work regularly in compliance with agreed-upon work schedule
Ensures security and confidentiality of sensitive and/or protected information
Complies with all agency policies and procedures, including those pertaining to ethics and integrity

III:

May train other employees
May supervise the work of others
Qualifications:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Investigator II:
Education:
Graduation from high school or equivalent
Education:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in the following or closely related field: investigative work; claims analysis; insurance adjustment; Experience and education may be substituted for one another on a year for year basis
Skill in handling multiple tasks, prioritizing, and meeting deadlines
Skill in effective oral and written communication
Skill in exercising sound judgment and effective decision making
Ability to receive and respond positively to constructive feedback
Ability to work cooperatively with others in a professional office environment
Ability to provide excellent customer service
Ability to work in person at assigned OAG work location, perform all assigned tasks at designated OAG work space within OAG work location, and perform in-person work with coworkers (e.g., collaborating, training, mentoring) for the entirety of every work week (unless on approved leave)
Ability to arrange for personal transportation for business-related travel
Ability to work more than 40 hours as needed and in compliance with the FLSA
Ability to lift and relocate 30 lbs.
Ability to travel (including overnight travel) up to 5%

All of the above qualifications for an Investigator II,
PLUS:
Experience:
One year of full-time experience in the following (or closely related) fields: investigative work; claims analysis; insurance adjustment
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience:
Experience in civil litigation with the Texas Attorney General or other state agency
Experience:
MS Word 2013, Adobe Acrobat XI Pro, Excel 2013 and LCMS
Knowledge of the Texas Tort Claims Act
Knowledge of applicable legal terminology and principles concerning the State's liability and defenses
