Description

Opportunity:

This role will provide metallurgical & process support to Manufacturing in various areas throughout the plant and to our numerous outside conversion operations.

In addition, this person will support Purchasing, Production Control, Quality Control and Sales/Marketing in a shared goal of improving safety, quality, productivity and cost while ensuring that our products meet the internal and external requirements of our customers.

Qualifications:

Education:
BS Engineering Materials Science or Metallurgical, or other Engineering specialty

Experience:
0-3 yrs. Will consider a recent graduate.

Areas of Knowledge:
Basic materials science, Thermomechanical processing of hot-forged, hot-rolled and/or cold rolling metals & finishing of flats and round products; Physical metallurgy of Ni- and Co base alloys; Manufacturing processes and equipment for conversion of Ingot metallurgy forms into wrought products; Statistical Process Control (SPC) and/or Lean Manufacturing principles

Skills:
Leadership, organization, communication/technical writing, math/analytical skills, SPC, computer skills

Responsibilities:
1.

Manufacturing Processes Control:
(a) Provide daily technical/metallurgical support to our internal and external Mfg. processes to meet our monthly production goals. Audit routings to ensure thatappropriate deformation/annealing/processing parameters will achieve passing specification property requirements.(b) Identify control parameters in assigned areas and monitor these for material response to reduce scrap/rework and other off-quality trends.(c) Monitor/maintain property trend data for key process characteristics.(d) Utilize standard Microsoft programs and Haynes internal programs in daily work for data analysis and trending.2.

Quality Systems:
(a) Disposition quality and/or metallurgical Product Reviews in a timely manner.(b) Analyze trends on material issues related to Product Reviews.(c) Maintain, develop, and improve Standard Operating Practices/Quality Control Instructions, as needed.3.

Process Metallurgy:
(a) Demonstrate an understanding of compositional and thermomechanical processing impacts in decision-making.(b) Provide metallurgical support to ensure all assigned products meets specification requirements.(c) Provide Marketing/Sales/Customers with relevant metallurgical and process information, as requested.4.

Processes Used:
(a) Utilize the Haynes' internal procedures to initiate, evaluate and summarize improvement trials.(b) Work as directed on process planning for special projects and new alloy scale-up activities.5.

Communication:
(a) Summarize monthly activities for the Mfg. Engineering monthly report in a timely manner.(b) Communicate material processing information to appropriate colleagues, as necessary.6.

Leadership:
(a) Conduct daily duties in an effective and professional manner.(b) Effectively supervise manufacturing engineering technician(s) to be able to complete tasks in a timely manner.
