    Job Purpose:
    Responsible for scheduling appointments and taking messages following established department protocols in a courteous and professional manner


    Essential Functions:
    (Examples of Duties)


    • Answers incoming calls in a prompt and professional manner.
    • Schedules, coordinates, and reschedules patient appointments as needed.
    • Obtains and enters patient demographic and insurance information as required.
    • Verify online insurance eligibility.
    • Takes messages from patients, physicians, hospitals, for emergencies and non-emergencies per established protocols.
    • Reviews, maintains, and updates provider schedulers ensuring patients are scheduled properly.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
    • Maintains strictest confidentiality; adheres to all HIPAA guidelines and regulations
    Qualifications

    Job Requirements/Qualifications:

    Education:
    High school diploma or GED

    Experience:

    Minimum one year of experience in an appointment scheduling position or customer service position, preferably in a medical practice setting.

    Computer experience.

    Knowledge and Skills:
    Must have ability to use proper grammar and have excellent spelling skills. Knowledge of customer service principles and techniques. Knowledge of medical terminology. Skill in communicating effectively with physicians/clinicians about scheduling preferences.
    Ability to multitask effectively, dealing with phone calls, in-office patients, staff, and others pleasantly. Ability to handle stressful situations. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees, and the public.

    Ability to communicate calmly and clearly with patients about appointments in all circumstances including when they are ill or have an emergency.

    Ability to analyze situations and respond appropriately.
