    Your Role

    The purpose of the Packaging Engineer is to deliver new packaging design and development projects, from concept through to implementation in our factory network and beyond. In addition, the Packaging Engineer will be responsible for projects aimed at improving the design and performance of our existing packaging portfolio, and to ensure that opportunities to optimize costs are identified and realized.

    6 month contract position to cover parental leave - May through October.

    Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

    • Be responsible for leading the development and commercialization of packaging, across growth (new products, new channels/markets), quality/cost improvement and material sourcing.
    • The Packaging Engineer will work closely with operations, marketing, R&D, QC and procurement teams to identify key opportunities to meet consumer, sustainability, and business needs, ensure BQG is bringing the best consumer experiences to life and ensure operational efficiency and scalability.
    • Test packaging systems and components to assist in the development of packaging specifications for new and existing products.
    • Provide subject matter expertise to the qualification and approval processes for new packaging, suppliers, or manufacturing locations.
    • Drive systems and processes that will synchronize R&D specifications and requirements with ongoing supplier quality deliverables.
    • Interface with suppliers to ensure packaging components meet requirements of design.
    • Interface with manufacturing site operations teams and R&D process team to support the planning and implementation of new packaging.
    • Anticipate transfer risks and address risks/issues proactively or raise them to team early on.
    • Manage and maintain packaging database (drawings, artworks, samples, etc.)

    Qualifications

    • B.S. In Packaging Engineering, Science, Mechanical Engineering or similar degree
    • Preferred 3-5 yrs. of experience in packaging operations or related field of work. CPG Experience with a broad range of packaging formats, materials, equipment, & performance tests are a plus.
    • Excellent written/verbal communication/presentation skills
    • Ability to work independently and with individuals from multiple disciplines and with varying levels of experience
    • Ability to excel in a fast-paced environment where change and growth are part of the culture.
    • Strong MS Office / Outlook skills. ERP platforms - prefer NetSuite.
    • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

    Compensation

    The salary range for this role considers a wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; and other business and organizational needs. Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the expected salary for this position is $45 - $48 per hour USD.
