JOB SUMMARY:
The Lab Manager supervises, coordinates, and participates in activities of personnel performing various chemical, microscopic, and bacteriological tests of body fluids, exudates, skin scraping, and surgical specimens to obtain diagnosis and treatment of disease.
The Lab Manager will individualize patient care based on age-appropriate and developmental needs.Should be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the unit.
Performs other duties as assigned.Salary Range:
$132,704 - $175,780 per year DOE
PERFORMANCE DIMENSIONS AND TASKS
Essential Function
Physician response and feedback to the proceeding are consistently acceptable.
Identifies techniques and procedures consistent with current and future practice methods of Medical Staff; maintains close working relationships with key physicians (i.e., orthopedists, primary care, and emergency room).
Follows policies outlining standards of hygiene and general safety rules.
May originate studies in the following areas: Infection control; Equipment safety; Appropriate documentation of patient care; Appropriateness of physician orders/referrals; and Interactions with other departments.
Quality control is regularly reviewed in comparison with other facilities and peers.
Develops and utilizes a defined system of resolving identified problems.
Provides follow-up monitoring to ensure problem resolution.
Reports problems and activities to the appropriate Hospital review group.
Regularly provides individual and small groups in-service to assist in the learning process.
Equipment, supplies, and materials are always stored following business and safety standards.
Supply levels are consistently maintained without overstocking.
Develop a contingency plan for equipment malfunction.
Draft procedural language for updates and reviews with the Pathologist or Laboratory Director.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Bachelor's Degree in the field of Lab Science.
Work Experience:
5 years of clinical laboratory experience - required.
2 years of supervisory experience in a hospital setting - preferred
Licensing Requirements:
Current California Clinical Laboratory Scientist license - required
Physical Demands:
Must be able to sit and stand/walk for up to 4 hours or more per day.
Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds for 3 to 4 hours per day.
Moderate exposure to hazardous waste and chemicals.
Special Demands:
Ability to supervise and work cooperatively with others.
Must be able to delegate duties and maintain efficient standards of operation.
Exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious disease/needle puncture wounds, anesthetic agents, and chemical agents
