    Reporting to the Director of Housing and Residence Life, the Resident Director plays a pivotal leadership role in shaping the residential experience at Concord University. Overseeing one or more residence halls housing approximately students, this position fosters a vibrant, supportive, and engaged living community. The Resident Director also provides direct supervision and mentorship to the Resident Assistants and Front Desk Assistants within their building.
    This dynamic role includes coordinating key areas such as room assignments, Resident Assistant recruitment, RA training and development, Greek Life engagement, and residence hall programming. On a rotating basis, the Resident Director also serves-alongside the on-duty Public Safety Officer-as one of the University's primary responders for after-hours and weekend emergencies.
    This full-time, twelve-month live-in position includes a private on-campus apartment, free utilities, and a University meal plan, allowing the Resident Director to be fully immersed in campus life without the burden of housing or dining expenses. The role requires a strong commitment to cultivating a safe, inclusive, and academically supportive environment that encourages community building, personal responsibility, and student success.
    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Perform night duty rounds approximately once a week and weekend duty rounds approximately once a month.
    • Assist with the on-call and 24-hour duty rotation
    • Responsible for the daily operation of the residence hall
    • Select, train, directly supervise, and evaluate all paraprofessional Resident Assistant and Desk Assistant staff employed in area(s) of supervision.
    • Participate in development and implementation of programming activities, both on and off campus.
    • Ensure that residents are aware of and adhering to the Residence Hall Policies and Procedures.
    • Work with Facilities and Maintenance to ensure the physical needs of the Residence Halls are maintained.
    • Provides leadership, direction, and support to RAs in the areas of community development, residential education, conflict mediation, crisis intervention, policy enforcement, administrative processes, and student support.
    • Maintain a close relationship with the Office of Public Safety.
    • Various forms of involvement in the University judicial system.
    • Respond to emergencies in the residence halls, defuse residential conflicts and crises, and provide mediation.
    • Provide advice and referrals to students on a range of issues, including, but not limited to, academic progress, academic program policies, accessibility, university policies and procedures, etc., in order to guide them in making appropriate choices and decisions.
    • Instruct staff and residents on fire safety, general evacuation procedures, and emergency protocols.
    • Understanding and compliant with confidentiality, FERPA, and sensitive information.
    • Perform administrative duties including, but not limited to, room inspections, managing check-in and check-out, completing occupancy reports, completing incident reports, reporting and following up with work orders, stocking residence hall offices with all necessary paperwork and supplies, accompanying outside contractors, responding to lock outs, monthly safety reports, updating housing literature, and maintaining in-hall office hours.

    • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from students, parents, staff, faculty, and senior administrators
    • Ability to problem-solve
    • Ability to work independently and work irregular hours during peak periods is required
