    Position Title: Vocational Specialist-Santa Maria

    Program: Supported Employment

    Position Summary

    Under the direction of the Program Manager, the Vocational Specialist will carry out the services of the Supported Employment Program by assisting adults with mental illness in obtaining and maintaining employment that is consistent with their vocational goals and recovery. The Vocational Specialist's primary responsibility will be job development for consumers in the Supported Employment Program including: identifying and developing job leads consistent with the needs of the consumers and the development of employer worksites that can be utilized for external situational assessments and work Adjustment. The Vocational Specialist will also be responsible for educating and supporting clients in how to job search, create a resume and master application, prepare for interviews, and obtain and maintain employment with a trauma informed approach. The Vocational Specialist will tailor employment services to each individual based on their needs for support. The Vocational Specialist will uphold and promote the program philosophy in all duties performed.

    Hours/ Salary

    Full-time, non-exempt position. 40 Hours per week, Monday-Friday with occasional check-ins with clients on weekends as needed, Anticipated hiring range is $ Includes a generous individual benefits package that includes health, dental, vision, life, 403b retirement (with up to a 5% employer match) paid vacation/holiday time, paid sick time and a variety of helpful employee perks as well.     Requirements:

    Responsibilities and Duties:

    1. Identify and develop job leads appropriate to the interest and abilities of the job seekers through various job-marketing strategies such as telephone marketing, "cold calling", responding to job announcements, and developing business relationships through local business organizations.

    2. Meet with assigned caseload of job seekers to identify and clarify employment goals, to identify potential accommodations, and educating and supporting consumers in how to job search, create a resume and master application, prepare for interviews, obtain and maintain employment.

    3. Facilitate a regular job-seekers workshop that provides skill development in areas such as resume building, interviewing, handling conflict on the job, etc.

    4. Accurately document services through regular case notes, intakes, employment preparation documents, monthly job development progress reports, job placement and retention reports as well as monthly services data.

    5. Promote, encourage and maintain trauma-informed practices in all services and activities. Practice and promote, both individually and in team meetings, TMHA's Collaborative Communication Guidelines in order to facilitate clear, empathetic and person-centered communication.

    6. Act as agency liaison by consulting, collaborating, and communicating with Program Manager, SLO County Behavioral Health Dept., and other treatment agencies to meet client and program objectives. This may include coordinating referrals and/or providing information to other agencies or programs.

    7. Attend regular staff meetings, participate in client intake meetings, and complete required hours of in-service training.

    8. Provide Job Coaching services to clients as needed.

    9. All other duties as assigned by the Program Manager.

    Job Environment:

    1. Moderate, physical activity and frequent driving; may include moving or lifting up to 50 lbs.

    2. Involves moderate risks that require safety precautions and the risk of exposure to potentially intense situations.

    Minimum Requirements

    BA/BS degree and 6 months of full-time work experience in job developing or mental health OR AA/AS degree and 2 years of full-time work experience in job developing or mental health; OR High School diploma and 4 years of full-time work experience in job developing or mental health. Awareness/ understanding of the needs of psychiatrically disabled population. English/Spanish bilingual a plus. Strong interpersonal skills, collaborative work style and oral/written communication skills. Well defined organizational and time management skills. Ability to work independently and flexibly. Ability to handle intense situations, display good judgment and decision-making skills, and remain calm and clearheaded under pressure. Able to deal effectively with a variety of people and personality types regardless of age, ethnicity, race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression or socio-economic level. Must use reasonable precaution in the performance of one's duties and adhere to all applicable safety rules and practices while acting in such a manner as to assure at all times, maximum safety to one's self, fellow employees, clients, and other persons contacted through TMHA business. Conditions of employment include: Ability to possess and maintain good physical and mental health. Must be at least 18 years of age, possess a valid CA Driver's License, at least 2 years driving experience, reliable transportation, proof of auto insurance, and DMV driving record that meets TMHA's current vehicle insurance requirements. May be required to utilize personal vehicle and auto insurance. Attendance is an essential function of this job that requires face-to-face interaction with clients and/or other employees. Ability to work well within a team and maintain a professional, respectful attitude in the workplace. Ability to be willing to work with supervisor oversight and direction. Must comply with a TB assessment (possibly a TB test if needed to confirm a negative tuberculosis result) and receipt of a criminal record clearance through fingerprinting. Must be able to successfully complete First Aid and CPR training.
