Sherman ISD announced July 25 that Mandi Lewis, who has served the district as the director of finance for the last six years, has been promoted to chief financial officer.

Lewis, who is entering her 20th year in education and 14th year in Sherman ISD, began her work in the district in 2009 as an accountant before being promoted to the director of finance.

During that time, she has prepared the district's $107 million annual budget, and oversees the payroll of the district's more than 1,200 employees, accounts payable, annual financial audit, and federal and state grants, as well as local grants and donations made to the district.

During her tenure, SISD has received the highest rating every year on the Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST) accountability program that's issued by the Texas Education Agency (TEA).

"I am honored and excited to be given this opportunity to continue the strong, transparent, and positive financial standing of Sherman ISD," she said. "Our amazing finance team strives daily to maintain the utmost standards and quality work, and I look forward to continuing our work together."
As CFO, Lewis will take over administrative responsibilities for the financial department since Dr. Tyson Bennett has become superintendent. Bennett previously oversaw the district's finances as assistant superintendent for finance and operations.

Lewis will also work closely with the district's facilities planning committee this fall as they evaluate current SISD campus needs and plan for future growth.

"I'm confident that Ms. Lewis will continue our exceptional financial legacy and vision as we plan for the future of Sherman ISD," Bennett said. "Our community can count on our dedication to fiscal responsibility while providing the best programs and opportunities for our students."

Lewis holds the highest certification credentials as a Registered Texas School Business Administrator (RTSBA) through the Texas Association of School Business Officials and is a member of TASA and ASBO International.

Lewis earned a bachelor's degree in math and business administration from Wayland Baptist University, and taught high school math early in her career.

Her husband, Eric, is a teacher.

Her son, Hadley, is an eighth grader at Piner Middle School, her daughter, Griffin, is a third grader at Sory Elementary, and her son, Eastland, is a first grader at Sory.
