    Description

    The CNC Setter is responsible for developing advanced programs for fabricating parts on numerically controlled machine and working from design and specifications, determines machining requirements and prepares a mathematical definition of the part to be produced. They will edit programs as needed as well as ensuring operation of the machines. This position will determine the proper speeds, feed and types of cutters needed to maximize machine efficiency. Prepares input for computer to generate actual machine control program. This position requires following standard work instructions of each required specification ensuring quality production of parts.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities

    Edits and troubleshoots G code programs as well as makes adjustments to tooling offsets based on knowledge and experience.

    Performs set up operations for all types of work orders per SMED process sheet.

    Validates unproven CNC programs for first time manufacture.

    Edits programs at the machine; includes processes and tooling to ensure finished products are in specification.

    Reviews production orders for machining jobs and determines dimensions and tolerances of finished work pieces; requires reviewing data sheets, blueprints and materials.

    Performs complex series of progressive machining operations on a diversified line of parts.

    Provides technical expertise and support to CNC Operators to solve production problems and increase efficiency.

    Collects and records Statistical Process Control (SPC) data as required by inspection methods for each order to ensure quality standards are met.

    Operates the Optical Comparator and other measuring tools to ensure correct dimensions of machined parts.

    Oversees machine operation throughout the production run to ensure part conformance.

    May be required to run more than one machine simultaneously per standard work.

    Cross trains in other areas as needed.

    Education and Experience

    This position requires a High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Should have a minimum of 5-7 years CNC experience in a manufacturing environment operating CNC equipment. Experience with 5S and Lean Manufacturing a plus.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    Ability to setup, edit and operate CNC lathe and mill.

    Ability to read and edit G code programs and adjust tooling offsets.

    Must have the ability to troubleshoot problems and provide sustainable solutions.

    Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with all levels of the organization in English; both written and verbal

    Must have a high mechanical aptitude and the ability to operate CNC machinery in a manner that uses raw materials to their best advantage and protects tools against breakage.

    Extensive knowledge of machining tools and processes.

    Must have ability to read and execute requirements on blueprints, drawings and work instructions

    Must have excellent math skills to read and process work instructions

    Knowledge of materials and material requirements; including knowledge of nonconforming material procedure

    Should have excellent organizational skills and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment

    Ability to set up machines for and instruct other operators

    Must have excellent knowledge of SPC charts based on dimensions and the ability to read them

    Must have a high level of attention to detail and excellent problem-solving skills

    Ability to work in a team environment

    Must have ability to adapt to constantly changing priorities

    Must have intermediate computer skills.

    Ability to use and read measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, scales and other quality control tools. Must be able to read measurements between .100 to .0001

    Work Environment/Physical Demands/Equipment Used

    This position is in the CNC department of a manufacturing facility which requires prolonged standing, walking, squatting, twisting, bending, and reaching throughout an entire ten-hour or eight-hour shift. Must be able to move and handle varying sized tools and dies in a dirty, dusty and noisy environment. Requires lifting to 50 pounds and working with large machinery and cutting tools.

    Job Type: Full-time

    Pay: $ $30.00 per hour
