    **POSITION TITLE:** Fitness Specialist

    **DEPARTMENT**: Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center (Kroc Center Hawaii)

    **SUPERVISOR**: Health & Wellness Manager

    **FLSA STATUS**: Non-Exempt

    **CLASSIFICATION:** Part-time, Hourly

    **POSITION SUMMARY:**

    The Fitness Specialist serves as a lead personal trainer for the facility and provides personalized attention, professional instruction and exercise programming to members to maximize their health, fitness, and wellness goals while providing the highest level of customer service. The Fitness Specialist will also oversee the scheduling of the part-time Personal Training staff and assist the Health & Wellness Director in supervision and in providing continuing education opportunities for the part-time Personal Training staff.

    The Fitness Specialist will have a deep commitment to the mission of The Salvation Army, which will be evident in his or her professional life and the manner in which he or she represents The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in the community.

    **REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:**

    High school graduate or GED.

    Three years experience within the fitness industry in personal training and group exercise instruction with specific knowledge of machine weights, free weights and cardio equipment with a national certification through at least one of the following: ACE, NASM, ACSM, NSCA) or equivalent.

    Must be at least 18 years of age.

    Current CPR and First Aid certification (or must be obtained within 60 days of employment).

    Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be accepted.

    **ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:**

    Serve as the key contact for all personal training inquiries.

    Educate members about the benefits of the program through special promotions and engagement activities.

    Assess fitness of members by identifying and assisting them in establishing short and long-term fitness goals.

    Develop fitness plans through physical assessment and member needs by designing exercise regimens including strength, cardiovascular conditioning and flexibility; offer nutritional guidance and accountability through goal-based tracking and monitoring.

    Utilize readiness to change theories and practices in order to provide the best methods of motivation and fitness interventions for members.

    Use excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, sales and marketing skills.

    Train, motivate and support members and guests. Provide a positive experience by consulting with them on proper techniques in free weights, strength training machines, and functional training exercises that support their efforts to achieve their personal fitness objectives.

    Coach clients and guests on form and movement, helping them focus on and maximize their workout and their positive experience at the fitness center.

    Conduct initial consultation session for new clients to include pre-participation screening, Medical History and Lifestyle, and others questionnaires. Refers client to appropriate personal trainer level based on needs/situation, if necessary.

    Complete and maintain accurate and current client information including

    Modified ParQ,

    Physician Release Form- if needed,

    Medical History and Lifestyle form,

    Informed Consent (if fitness assessments conducted),

    Release of Liability,

    Signed Client Policies and Procedures Form,

    Results of /fitness evaluation( if any),

    Exercise program plan, and

    Client activity/progress charts

    Responsible for meeting revenue/sessions and performance goals.

    Build new client base and retain current clients.

    Maintain quality service by following organization standards.

    Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations.

    Respond to and report accidents and incidents to Health & Wellness Director.

    Document maintenance needs and submit to Health & Wellness Director.

    Follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.

    Maintain the Code of Ethics policy, which has been established for the Kroc Center Hawaii.

    Maintain regular and punctual work attendance, balancing a client load of 10-20 paid personal training sessions per week. Once meeting number of paid sessions, help coordinate and schedule members with other part-time personal trainers.

    Assist the Health & Wellness with organizing continuing education opportunities for other fitness staff.

    Perform other duties as assigned.

    Adhere to dress code and the Health and Wellness core values.

    **PHYSICAL DEMANDS:**

    The position requires endurance to complete all required training sessions. The position requires sitting; climbing and/or balancing; stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching, crouching and/or crawling; standing; walking; manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; use of vision; driving a vehicle; pushing/pulling/lifting/carrying 40 pounds and occasionally more than 50 pounds. This employee may also be required to work weekends and evenings.

    **COMMUNICATION DEMANDS:**

    The position requires talking to co-workers, clients, vendors; requires written communication to and from co-workers, clients, vendor; talking on the telephone; requires responding to written or verbal requests of co-workers, clients, and vendors; requires training/giving verbal and written instructions; requires receiving verbal and written instructions; requires writing/composing written language; requires reading; requires visiting/working at other worksites; requires communication via the latest technologies.

    This position requires the ability to interact with co-workers and the public in a positive, professional manner, in conformity with The Salvation Army Mission Statement. The position also requires the ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and circumstances.

    **DESCRIPTION OF WORK ENVIRONMENT:**

    While performing the duties of this job, regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the environment is occasionally loud. Extended workdays are a frequent occurrence, as are weekends and holidays as needed to support the business.
