- Represents clients in litigation, administrative proceedings, transactions, and policy matters.
- Formulates sophisticated litigation strategy; drafting legal documents; interacting with clients, co-counsel, experts, partners, opposing counsel, and the media in a respectful and intelligent way; and appearing before courts, administrative bodies, and legislative bodies in a professional manner.
- Participates in decisions regarding which clients the clinic or center will accept, including which clients the Junior Staff Attorney will represent directly, which clients will be primarily represented by students under the direct supervision, and which matters will be handled by pro bono attorneys working with students.
- Recruits, trains, and supports volunteer attorneys, matching clients with volunteer attorneys and law students, in consultation with the center or clinic director, and does some direct client representation. Recruits, trains, and supervises students in performing intake and screening and handling client matters.
- Alongside the clinic or center director, the Junior Staff Attorney teaches students in the Clinic how to participate in legal representation and how to think about lawyering skills and challenges more generally.
- Provides student-attorneys with instruction, case work, assignments, and written and oral feedback on all parts of the representation.
- Shares responsibility with the clinic or center director for leading the weekly staff meeting regarding the docket.
- Assists the director with the operation of the clinic or center and administrative tasks as necessary.
- Develops and manages relationships with law firms and attorney volunteers, recruiting, training, and supporting attorney volunteers on Clinic-referred cases, including matching attorneys and students.
- Works closely with the Clinic Paralegal and any other administrative staff to track clients, cases, and outcomes in the case management system, to prepare periodic reports as requested, including an annual report of activities, and to help ensure the Clinic operates efficiently and effectively.
- Builds bridges with the members of the represented community both at and outside of Emory. Such participation in the community should be used to enhance the Junior Staff Attorney's independent professional development but is also expected to promote Emory and the clinic or center within the community.
- Performs other duties as required.
- JD degree and licensed to practice law in the State of Georgia.
- One year of experience to include legal practice, experience working on legal matters affiliated with the center or clinic, experience managing a clinic, and/or experience supervising a new lawyer or law students is preferred. Applicants must be current members of the GA bar.
- Applicants will be considered on a rolling basis until the position is filled with a first review on January 29.

Emory Law seeks a Junior Staff Attorney for its Volunteer Clinic for Veterans (VCV). In this grant-funded position, the Junior Staff Attorney works with a Staff Attorney, a Center Director, or a Clinic Director in support of three major objectives (1) representation of clinic clients in legal matters, (2) recruitment, training, supervision and teaching of law student volunteers, and (3) serving as a liaison with law firms, volunteer attorneys, and the federal government
