    Description

    Responsible for providing leadership for the Intake team. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, establishing and maintaining clinical standards of care, management of staff and resources, collaboration with other multidisciplinary teams, and process improvement. Assists in the assessment of the needs of prospective patients and phone callers and ensures their referral to the service or resource to best address those needs.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Develops and maintains positive working relationships with internal and external referring providers, referral sources, clinical team members, and staff.
    • Develops and implements standard of care relevant to patient services.
    • Provides leadership and supervision to the team of Intake Nurses and clinicians who are responsible for coordinating care in collaboration with the hospital staff.
    • In the absence of the Director of Intake, the Intake Supervisor performs the duties of the Director, including taking call.
    • Assists staff with intake functions when workload volumes are high.
    • Responsible for the accuracy of the Bed Board.
    • Analyzes clinical practice and identifies opportunities to increase quality, safety, effectiveness, and efficiency.
    • Maintains compliance with all clinical policies, procedures, and regulations.
    • Serve as a role model, demonstrating effective patient care, leadership, and professional behavior.
    • Compiles daily, weekly and shift reports as directed by the Director of Intake.
    • Assists the Director of Intake with scheduling and staffing to ensure that the department has the needed coverage. The RN Intake Supervisor will actively fill in when a charge nurse is needed in the intake department due to short staff, call off or breaks.
    • Makes appropriate interventions during assessments and crisis situations with patients, family/friends and other professional staff.
    • Assesses need for involuntary hospitalization evaluation.
    • Maintains knowledge of legal guidelines pertaining to EMTALA/COBRA and abuse/neglect reporting.
    • Responds to telephone and face-to-face inquiries from persons seeking mental health care or information about mental health-related services.
    • Communicates with managed care organizations to obtain insurance pre-authorizations in a timely manner.
    • Ensures that staff has adequate training in assessment and admission procedures.
    • Demonstrates good skills in assessing client's crisis and clinical indicators.

    Requirements

    • Current Nevada State RN licensure required
    • Knowledgeable of patient rights and laws pertaining to mental health
    • Assessment and intervention skills
    • Persuasive manner and skills in overcoming denial and resistance to treatment
    • Ability to deal with crisis and potentially combative patients while maintaining personal and emotional equilibrium.
    • Proficiency with software and/or equipment (Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
