    JOB SUMMARY

    The Staffing and Bed Control Specialist is responsible for the execution and implementation of nursing department daily staffing under the direction of leadership. They analyze trends of staffing and allocate staffing resources to align with demand. Support and execute centralized communication when staffing needs of hospital require further support. Adjust staffing based on volume to meet budgeted targets. Responsible for the accurate and timely placement of all patients requiring admission to the NCH healthcare system. Work independently to assign patients to rooms, based on protocols developed with directors, administrative coordinators, unit team leaders, and administration for the timely placement of patients in their rooms. Support budget target and safe staffing levels by analyzing and applying staffing grids to daily operations.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    · Allocate staffing resources appropriately to support staffing needs and maintain fiscal responsibility.

    · Responsible for the execution of the daily staffing plan in collaboration with nursing leadership.

    · Actively manages staffing resources throughout shift based on dynamic needs of census fluctuations.

    · Assign hospital staff according to identified needs.

    · Assists and coordinates all aspects of daily staffing accurately and professionally.

    · Responsible for accurate and timely data entry into staffing system.

    · Responsible for generating staffing reports for analysis as requested.

    · Collaborates effectively with members of team.

    · Demonstrates proficiency in utilization of the hospital-based staffing system.

    · Demonstrates a high level of understanding for hospital and staffing policy & procedures.

    · Analyzes staffing grids to provide leadership with insight to support staffing decisions.

    · Communicates effectively with staff to match staffing capacity to demand.

    · Responsible for the daily implementation of patient safety tech plans including assigning them to patients as requested per process, data entry for staff allocation and reallocating sitter staff based on needs of patients.

    · Proficient in the NCH policy and procedure for adjusting staffing when greater than need through COH process. And does so in a way that supports fiscal responsibility and patient safety.

    · Responsible for receiving and documenting all call outs from staff that call the centralized staffing office.

    · Function independently for bed placement based on placement algorithm designed with nursing leadership team.

    · Allocates bed resources of NCH in a way that supports the needs of patient care.

    · Responsible for all bed control activities including but not limited to placement and process of all patients entering the NCH system requiring bed placement, supporting transfers within system, optimizing placement of patients from offsite emergency departments.

    · Serves as central transfer center for receiving direct admits and transfers into the NCH system.

    · Well versed and able to communicate admission policies and procedure and controls patient flow.

    · Proficient in use of electronic health record and other data systems that directly support bed control process.

    · Demonstrates the ability to listen to and ensure a prompt response to patient and family needs.

    · Demonstrates effective professional communication and excellent customer service skills based on positive attitudes and values.

    · Participates in quality improvement projects to improve efficiency and operations of bed control.

    · Understands patient needs and makes appropriate bed placements accordingly.

    · Understands bed flow process and places patients in a manner that maintains efficient flow.

    EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

    · Minimum of High School or GED required.

    · Hospital clerical experience preferred.

    · Minimum of 2 years of experience in a customer service or clerical role preferred.

    · Intermediate computer knowledge: Uses Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows.
