Job Description and Duties

Under the clinical and administrative direction of the Supervising Dentist, Correctional Facility (CF), the Dentist (DDS), CF is responsible for the delivery of dental care, including preventive care, to patients at a State correctional facility. The Dentist, CF participates in performance management activities to continuously improve the Inmate Dental Services Program (IDSP). The Dentist, CF, may delegate appropriate levels of responsibility to the Supervising Dental Assistant, CF, Dental Assistant, CF, and Dental Hygienist, CF and is responsible for the quality of their work. The Dentist, CF maintains order and supervises the conduct of inmates and protects and maintains the safety of persons and property.
Minimum Qualifications
Possession of the legal requirements for the practice of dentistry in California as determined by the California Board of Dental Examiners. (Applicants may be admitted to the examination prior to meeting these requirements, but the Board of Dental Examiners must determine that all legal requirements have been met before candidates will be eligible for appointment.)
Education: Graduation from an approved dental school. (Registration as a senior in a recognized institution will admit applicants to the examination, but they must produce evidence of graduation or its equivalent before they can be considered eligible for appointment.)

Do not include any confidential information on any documents you submit for a job vacancy, such as your State application, resume, or educational transcripts. Confidential information should be excluded, including Social Security Number (SSN), birthdate, student identification number, driver's license number (unless required), basis of eligibility, examination results, LEAP status, marital status, and age. Candidates new to CDCR or the Division of Juvenile Justice are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, and Tuberculosis testing prior to appointment followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.
Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified prior to interview and/or appointment. If you are meeting Minimum Qualifications with education, you must include your unofficial transcripts/diploma for verification. Official transcripts may be required upon appointment. If it is determined an applicant does not meet the Minimum Qualifications, the candidate will be withheld from the eligibility list, rendering them inactive and ineligible to be hired for the position. Candidates who have been withheld may file an appeal with the State Personnel Board.
