Summary

This position is located within the Office of Security and Hazardous Materials Safety (ASH) and may be assigned to a geographical location under the purview of the Office of Investigations. The mission of ASH is to ensure aviation safety, support national security, and promote an efficient airspace system through the development and administration of policies and programs.

Duties

The incumbent performs a mixture of basic and routine assignments under the close direction of a manager or a more experienced specialist. Applies basic technical knowledge of the Cyber Investigations program to accomplish assignments. The incumbent regularly refers problems and work issues to a manager or more experienced specialist when existing guidelines are not available or applicable.

Work is typically reviewed frequently during assignments and at completion to ensure timeliness, policy compliance, and alignment with the requirements of projects and/or other work activities. Typical duties include but are not limited to the following:

Support internal investigations within the Federal Aviation Administration by planning and performing basic forensic examinations of digital, electronic and mobile device data from a variety of sources with the goal of developing forensically sound evidence.

Coordinate with managers and other investigators on digital forensics issues to identify methods and procedures for recovery, preservation, and presentation of digital evidence; provide basic consultation throughout investigations on matters relating to digital evidence or digital investigative analysis.

Conduct research relating to digital forensics issues and learn to apply industry-accepted principles and practices in retrieving, recovering, and preserving digital evidence.

Develop skills to learn digital forensic solutions and obtain the knowledge to perform tasks and assignments related to cyber investigations to include host based forensics, network based forensics, mobile forensics, and other investigative analysis.

Completes digital forensics process tasks with guidance from the Manager or more experienced specialist. Supports the implementation of the Cyber Investigations Program and execution of all Cyber Investigations policies.

Performs other duties as assigned.
