- Draft findings and rulings in accordance with DCF regulations and policies, ensuring analytically sound decisions in a clear and cogent manner within DCF time frames.
- Review fair hearing cases to provide preliminary determinations regarding settlement disputes where appropriate.
- Assist in resolving matters of discovery and other issues preliminary to the hearing.
- Maintain complete and organized files of assigned cases.
- Enter data into DCF's electronic records system concerning hearings assigned, heard, and decided as directed by supervisor.
- Submit data for monthly activity reports, analyze Fair Hearing Data, and make recommendations for system changes.
- Perform related duties such as preparing correspondence, operating office machines, and filing documents in an established system.
- Maintain working relationships with staff within the Fair Hearing Unit, Office of the General Counsel, and Area Office Staff.
- Research and analyze law sources to assist the agency in carrying out Fair Hearing Unit duties.
- Travel to area offices as needed.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion when handling confidential information.
- Capacity to interact effectively with people and communicate clearly in writing and orally.
- Proven ability to write concisely and express thoughts logically.
- Demonstrated ability to read and understand legal documents.
- Ability to identify and resolve problems as necessary.

Job Title: Fair Hearing Paralegal Specialist
The Department of Children and Families (DCF) is seeking a mission-driven individual with legal experience to fill this role. The selected candidate will assist the Fair Hearing Director, Supervisors, and Officers through the fair hearing process.

Minimum Entrance Requirements:
Applicants must have at least two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, paraprofessional experience in legal research or legal assistant work, or any equivalent combination of experience and education substitutions below.
Substitutions:
An Associate's degree with a major in paralegal studies may be substituted for required experience. Completion of one year of study at a recognized law school may also be substituted for required experience.
Special Requirements:
Possession of a current Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator's License may be required based on assignment.
