    General Description & Classification Standards

    The City of Atlanta Department of City Planning is committed to implementing Atlanta City Design, transforming the city into the best version of itself. Our Planning Studio leads the exceptional design of plans at all scales, guiding the physical and economic development of our rapidly growing city.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities

    • Provide leadership in the plan-making process in alignment with Atlanta City Design.
    • Collaborate with a team of professionals to design city plans.
    • Assist in developing new processes and methodologies for plan development.
    • Engage communities in the planning process to inform design decisions.
    • Analyze project issues, collect relevant data, and recommend design solutions.
    • Develop planning concepts, graphics, and reports for projects.
    • Lead public engagement activities and promote the Office of Design as a resource.

    Decision Making

    Selects from multiple procedures and methods to accomplish tasks efficiently.

    Leadership Provided

    Provides guidance and training to less experienced designers and collaborators.

    Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

    • Urban design and planning knowledge.
    • Zoning practices application.
    • Creative abilities in design.
    • Strong graphic design skills.
    • Effective communication skills.
    • Collaborative work approach.
    • Proficiency in design software including Adobe Suite, ESRI ArcGIS, AutoCAD, SketchUp, and Microsoft Office.
