    Duties and Responsibilities

    1. The UHSM staff physician has the primary responsibility of providing primary care medical services for patients visiting the medical clinic. The physician will perform medical evaluations and prescribe treatment as needed. The physician will also provide preventive and routine health maintenance services to patients. The scope of treatment is determined by the individual physician's interest, training and experience, and the facilities available at UHSM. This position requires the physician to be present for patient care for 5 days per week. The individual physician schedule may at times be required to change to accommodate UHSM patient clinical needs. The physician must participate in health care/health insurance company programs contracted through UHSM. ( ~85-90% of time/effort allocation).
    2. The physician is expected to develop and participate in scholarly pursuits, including quality improvement (QI) activities to enhance the quality of patient care and promote good health on the Manoa campus. The physician will engage in assigned projects that promote good patient care. An example is to assist in the implementation of primary care medicine payment transformation practices as may be directed by health insurance carriers. (~5-10% of time effort/allocation).
    3. The physician is expected to act in a supervisory role to the nurses and other allied health professionals at the Health Services. An individual physician may be assigned additional supervisory functions in a special area of interest and expertise.
    4. UHSM physicians may at times be asked to act in the capacity of medical consultant to the University campus community.
    5. Additional duties may include health education on an individual and group basis; coordination and development of health education programs; presentations to other campus units or groups; and working with student employees and volunteers.
    6. The physician is expected to participate in other aspects of UHSM activities including attending regular staff meetings, serving on committees as requested, peer evaluation, participation in accreditation activities, and involvement in staff continuing medical education. Participation in campus wide and Office of Student Affairs activities is encouraged.
    7. Other activities that may be recommended include serving as teaching preceptors for medical student and residents, participation in research projects, and participation in community medical and professional organizations, as clinical duties and responsibilities allow. (Last 5 Duties and Responsibilities account for ~5-10% of time/effort allocation)

    Minimum Qualifications

    1. M.D. or D.O. degree
    2. Must have or be eligible for Hawai'i medical license, Hawai'i State Narcotics license, and Federal DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) license.
    3. Board-certified/Board-eligible in Family Medicine, Pediatrics, or Internal Medicine.
    4. Ability to obtain liability insurance consistent with UHSM standards.
    5. Highly motivated with proven ability in patient care in primary care medicine.
    6. At least four years experience in health care at the post-graduate level with demonstrated increasing professional maturity. Must include at least two years of experience in a primary care setting.
    7. Demonstrated ability to plan and organize assigned activities and responsibilities.

    Desirable Qualifications

    1. Experience working in a university setting.
    2. Experience working with adolescents/young adults.
    3. Added qualifications, Board certification and/or experience in such clinical areas as sports medicine, outpatient gynecology, or adolescent medicine.
    4. Ability and enthusiastic interest to relate to young people with diverse backgrounds.
    5. Experience in designing and developing medicine quality improvement projects.
