    TERM OF APPOINTMENT: 12 Months – Annual Contract

    QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree required; master's preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with college athletes and administrators.
  • Ability to organize an effective recruitment and retention program for student-athletes.
  • Knowledge of and strict adherence to NCAA & NJAC rules and regulations
  • RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1. Responsible to the Director of Athletics

    2. Coaching – Organization and Administration of The Men's Basketball Program.

  • Develop and maintain a program that is competitive within the conference, region and On the national level.
  • Conduct planned, organized practice sessions.
  • Scout opponents.
  • Attend department meetings.
  • Work with Athletic Director/Associate Athletic Director on scheduling.
  • Hire (with the approval of the Athletic Director) and supervise assistant coaches.
  • Coordinate team travel plans.
  • Responsible for equipment purchases in conjunction with the Athletic Director.
  • Responsible for issuance and collection of equipment in conjunction with the equipment supervisor.
  • Prepare team budget.
  • Conduct fund-raising activities when needed.
  • Provide information as requested by Sports Information Director for press releases etc.
  • Submit names of award winners to Assistant Athletic Director
  • Submit eligibility forms to Compliance Officer
  • Attend weekly sports writer's luncheons when appropriate.
  • Develop a knowledge of and adhere to NCAA and NJAC rules and regulations.
  • Develop a knowledge of the university Admissions policies, academic standards and financial aid programs.
  • Submit an end-of-season report to the Assistant Athletic Director
  • Keep abreast of current and new coaching trends by attending clinics, workshops and conferences when appropriate.
  • 3. Organization and Administration of Recruitment and Retention Program

  • Develop an effective communication/recruitment program with prospective student-athletes.
  • Develop contacts with secondary school and junior college coaches.
  • Develop a positive working relationship with the Admissions Office.
  • Submit recruitment forms as periodically requested by the Compliance Officer.
  • Develop an effective retention program for student-athletes in conjunction with the Athletic Academic Advisor, and Academic Support Services.
  • 4. Public Relations Related Activities

  • Establish an effective communication network with University faculty, administration and staff.
  • Develop rapport with the Alumni Office.
  • Speak before high school, professional and community organizations when requested.
  • 5. Additional Professional Responsibilities

  • Attend clinics and conferences related to specific sport.
  • Be an active member in state and national coaching organizations.
  • Attend department meetings and activities.
  • Serve on department and university wide committees when appropriate.
  • Fall & Spring game management.
  • Facility supervision of Esby during open gym and when needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics

    Residency Requirements

    Rowan University is subject to the residency requirements of the NJ First Act (N.J.S.A. 52:14-7, P.L. 2011, Chapter 70). Any person hired to a non-exempt position shall either have their principal residence in New Jersey or have one (1) year from the date of employment to establish, and then maintain, principal residence in the State of New Jersey. Any person hired to an exempt position shall either have their principal residence in New Jersey, Delaware, Pennsylvania, or New York or have ninety (90) days from the date of employment to establish, then maintain, principal residence in the State of New Jersey, Delaware, Pennsylvania, or New York.
