    POSITION TITLE: Substitute Cook

    LOCATION: Brooke County Schools, to be called as needed

    QUALIFICATIONS: Title: Cook I - means personnel employed as a "cook's helper".
    Cook II - means personnel employed to interpret menus, to prepare and serve meals in a food service program of a school and shall include personnel who
    have been employed as a "Cook I" for a period of four years, if the personnel
    have not been elevated to this classification within that period of time.

    Knowledge in areas of cooking, baking and food preparation. Must be able to read recipes and make calculations for ingredient measurements. Must have a functionally working skill in operating all types of kitchen equipment. Background training in institutional or commercial food service preferred.
    Must meet all health requirements set up by the federal, state and county government. Exhibit a pleasing personality and ability to get along well with others. High school diploma or general equivalency certificate (GED) required, and achieve a passing score on the WV State Competency Test for Cooks. This job is classified as requiring a medium to heavy work capacity. Ability to order food supplies and maintain kitchen records in the absence of the Cook III.

    Essential functions of the job are:
    1. Maintain standards of work conduct as determined by the food service program.
    2. Prepare all types of food according to county, state and federal guidelines.
    3. Prepares tables, chairs, steam tables, napkin holders, salt and pepper shakers, straw dispensers, etc., and returns lunchroom for class activities.
    4. Wash trays, carts, pots/pans, utensils and other food service equipment.
    5. Sweep and mop lunchroom and kitchen area.
    6. Clean all equipment and facilities used in preparing and serving meals.
    7. Assist other cooks in the kitchen/dining area as needed.
    8. Monitor portions and quality control.
    9. Files a report for any equipment needing repaired.
    10. Participates in all county food service training programs required and strives to upgrade job performance by implementing the suggestions and decisions made during these meetings.
    11. To follow county policy and procedures.
    12. To maintain positive work habits and attitudes.
    13. To perform duties efficiently and productively.
    14. To maintain and/or upgrade skills.
    15. To promote positive public communication.
    16. To maintain a professional appearance.
    17. If possible, willing to perform kitchen related activities outside the normal work day if needed and requested.
    18. Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Director of Food Service and/or building Principal.
    Term of employment: 200 days
    Salary: In accordance with the Brooke County Service Personnel Salary Schedule.
    Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the
    Brooke County Board of Education Policy on Evaluation of Service Personnel.
