    Description

    As a growing company in the forensic and structural engineering fields, DDA Forensics is seeking a highly-motivated Professional Engineer (preference given to individuals who have a structural engineering background) to become a full-time member of our forensic engineering team. The candidate is expected manage forensic engineering assignments, perform forensic engineering investigations and evaluations, and provide their findings to clients, which may include attorneys, insurance carriers, property managers, associations, and risk managers. The ideal candidate understands the technical aspects of structural engineering and construction, is able to concisely express technical concepts and ideas (using engineering judgement) within a forensic report, is able to independently perform inspections and diagnose problems, interpret and explain the Florida Building Code concisely, possess a keen understanding of typical construction practices and standards, and possess the desire to continue learning. Prior construction and litigation experience is a plus. The person must possess skills in problem solving, critical thinking, writing, presentation, and must be able to meet internal and client performance standards, as well as meet occasional expedited assignment requests.

    Position requirements:

    • Possess a working knowledge of structural systems including low-rise and high-rise structures, as well as foundation design, analysis, construction.
    • Capacity to work under minimal supervision and resolve issues independently based on project requirements and needs.
    • Perform inspections of single-family residences and commercial buildings, which may include exterior facades, crawlspaces, attics, roofs among others.
    • Effectively and clearly communicate investigation findings, and technical concepts to clients verbally, and in writing.
    • Perform structural calculations by hand or using spreadsheets as warranted to support findings when applicable.
    • Research design manuals, local and state building codes and ordinances, and communicate findings in an easy-to-understand manner.
    • Conduct investigations to determine the cause and origin of structural collapses, failures, damages, and defects for residential/commercial structures due to a wide range of conditions and perils.
    • Perform research on properties related to construction, permitting, and construction materials.
    • Support and derive clear, concise, and conclusive investigation findings from aggregated data, which may include a wide range of documents, including but not limited to weather data, photographs, statements, on-site investigation findings, and other supporting documentation.
    • Prepare forensic investigation reports supported by conclusive and legally defensible conclusions of fact.
    • Provide deposition and trial testimony as warranted.
    • Mentor and provide model example to junior (E.I.) engineering staff.
    • Must be able to meet short project deadlines when necessary.
    • Meet or exceed company and client service level agreement metrics.
    • Ability to learn on-the-fly independently and maintains a desire to improve their craft.
    • Position may require travel and overnight stays, especially at times of catastrophic event response.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Ability to work in all outdoor weather conditions.
    • Ability to climb roofs and/or crawl in small spaces.
    • Ability to work at height, sometimes above two-stories.
    • Ability to stand, bend, reach and walk.
    • Ability to move about inside/outside of homes and buildings.
    • Ability to lift/push up to 40 lbs.

    Educational/ Licensing/ Experience Requirements:

    • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil/Structural Engineering.
    • Registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Florida.
    • Preferred: Master's degree in Civil Engineering with emphasis on Structural Engineering.
    • Preferred: Level 1, 2, or 3 Thermographer.
    • Preferred: Experience in threshold building inspections and recertifications.
    • Preferred: Forensic engineering experience.
    • Preferred: Experience in the evaluation of window systems.
