    The RN Nursing Professional Development Specialist assists with educational needs assessment, coordination, implementation and evaluation of unit-based clinical education for primary staff in assigned clinical areas.

    Supports all unit based educational activities such as onboarding new personnel, in-service education and continuing education programs.

    Facilitates the professional growth, skill development, competency and attainment of standards of care for direct care nurses within the organization and across the organization.

    GENERAL DUTIES

    • Designs, organizes, implements and evaluates educational programs for the nurses across the facilities.
    • Facilitates the professional growth, skill development, competency and attainment of standards of care for direct care nurses within the organization.
    • Collaborates with nursing leadership to identify and meet the overall needs of patient care units, multi-disciplinary teams, committees and task forces.
    • Contributes to the overall quality of nursing care through performance improvement techniques.
    • Educates the patients and family members so that they have a clear understanding of the provided care.
    • Manages and develops the strategic planning of professional nursing education, development and learning programs, standards, goal/objectives related to enhancing professional practice and meeting organizational/business needs.
    • Coordinates curriculum related to specialty programs and cross-training.

    EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS

    • 1 to 3 years of experience in related area required.

    EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS

    • Required: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
    • Required: Graduate of an accredited RN program.

    BLS certification from the American Heart Association


    • CHNOLA location ONLY: Must complete applicable instructor courses for American Heart Association within 6 months of hire date
    Unencumbered license to practice as a registered nurse in Louisiana.

    FUNCTIONAL DEMANDS

    • Light: Light physical requirements- Light Work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work.
    Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work:
    (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or (3) when the job requires working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those materials is negligible
