    Job Summary/Basic Functions

    The Department of Teaching, Learning, and Educational Leadership at Eastern Kentucky University invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor position for Academic Year Applicants should hold an earned Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Literacy or a related field from an accredited institution at the time of appointment. ABD applicants may be considered but must have a Ph.D. or Ed.D. (verified by official transcripts) at the time of appointment. The position begins August 2024.

    The position serves students in the B.S. Elementary, M.A.T. in Elementary Ed, and Early Childhood programs. It requires certification in Literacy assessment and experience in Literacy Education. The successful candidate will teach Literacy/English Language Arts (ELA)
    and other foundational education courses, as needed, in a 5/5 annual teaching load, lead clinical observations, prepare students for the new Literacy Praxis exam, and assist in developing courses in a new online platform for B.S. in Elementary and Option +9 students for Literacy/ELA courses.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Education: Earned Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Literacy or a related field from an accredited institution at the time of appointment. ABD applicants may be considered but must have a Ph.D. or Ed.D. (verified by official transcripts) at the time of appointment.

    • A minimum of three (3) years experience in Literacy Education.

    • Knowledge of current practices in professional communication and social media

    • Effective interpersonal communication skills

    • Strong oral and written communication skills

    • Analytic and problems solving skills

    • Active and effective listening skills

    • Ability to collaborate with peers and students

    • Ability to understand and adapt to current trends in professional communication

    • Evidence of good character, mature attitude, and professional integrity

    Licensure & Certifications: Certification in Literacy assessment.

    Job Duties:

  • 40% - Maintain a 5/5 teaching load, teaching courses as assigned at the times and in the locations necessary to meet the needs of EKU students and lead clinical observations. - (Essential)
  • 25% - Assist and prepare students for the new Literacy Praxis Exam - (Essential)
  • 25% - Assist in developing Literacy/ELA course in new online platform - (Essential)
  • 10% - Other duties as assigned throughout the school terms - (Marginal)
