    About the Company:

    Education Through Music is a non-profit organization that collaborates with New York City Public Schools to reintegrate music teachers and programs into school curricula. What sets us apart from other arts nonprofits is our role in supporting teachers without certification to enter public schools, develop their programs, and eventually secure positions with the Department of Education. ETM has a significant impact, serving all five boroughs, partnering with 50 public schools, and providing music education to over 18,000 children. Music plays a crucial part in a holistic education, contributing to students' social and emotional well-being and promoting equity and success. We are seeking educators who are enthusiastic about music and dedicated to making a positive impact in their communities.

    Responsibilities:

    • Serving as part of the school music faculty
    • Collaborating with program staff to develop the in-school music program
    • Organizing two school-wide concerts annually
    • Participating in and supporting school-wide events like assemblies, graduations, and after-school activities
    • Creating comprehensive lesson plans with a clear scope and sequence
    • Assessing, implementing, and enhancing current processes
    • Commitment to commuting to Staten Island

    Candidates who do not currently possess 'eligible' status for classroom teaching according to the NYC Department of Education (DOE) will be required to undergo a fingerprinting and background check through the NYC DOE PETS system. Only those approved by the DOE and granted 'eligible' status are eligible for employment with ETM.

    Pay Range:

    $52,324 - $62,212 per year

    Requirements:

    • Bachelor's Degree in Music/Arts or a Related Field
    • 1-3 years of experience teaching groups of up to 30 children
    • Capacity to demonstrate quality singing in front of children
    • Strong musical knowledge
    • Familiarity with musical pedagogy practices
    • Residing in close proximity to Staten Island

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Master's in Music Education or a Related Field
    • Certified to teach in New York State or another state
    • 3-5 years of teaching experience in New York City Public Schools
    • Skills in singing, conducting, keyboard, guitar, and presentations are advantageous
    • Prior experience teaching Band, Orchestra, Modern Band, and Choir
    • Comfortable with Music Technology Software like Soundtrap

    Note: Ability to climb multiple flights of stairs and lift up to 15 lbs of equipment
