    Job Summary


    The Healthcare Intern Program provides an opportunity for students interested in nursing, medicine, and other health science careers to explore these pathways and gain real-world experience.

    The Clinical Care Intern performs basic procedures, under the supervision of a preceptor.

    Placement opportunities available in all clinical areas (i.e. clinic, dietetics, pharmacy, emergency services, oncology, surgical services, critical care, med-surg, mental health, radiology, rehab services, nursing home, laboratory, assisted living, chronic care, social services).

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities


    • Delivers safe, direct care to patients under the supervision of a preceptor.
    • Assists in monitoring the health status of the patient or resident.
    • Performs accurate reporting and recording of patient information, including vital signs, weight, behavior, and mobility.
    • Anticipates and responds promptly to patient needs. Reports pertinent information to nursing team members.
    • Assists in the inventory and maintenance of supplies, equipment and instruments.
    • Attends and participates in scheduled training, observation, educational classes, and workshops.
    • Serves as a patient advocate.
    • Maintains friendly and courteous interpersonal communication skills and a positive service attitude.
    • Works willingly and accepts assignments as given.
    • Performs other duties as necessary or assigned.
    • Complies with the Corporate Compliance Policy and all laws, regulations, and Standards of Conduct relating to the position and agrees to report any suspected violations of law or Standards of Conduct.
    • Complies with all applicable state and federal regulations.
    • Maintains a safe work environment using safe work practices, utilizing standard precautions and complying with hazardous waste procedures at all times as described in St. Anthony's Safety Manual.
    • Maintains the confidentiality of patient, resident, employee and organizational information.
    Supervisory Responsibilities

    Qualifications

    Education and/or Experience


    • Must have completed sophomore year of high school and be between the ages of 16 – 24.
    Position Requirements, Certifications, Licenses, Registrations.


    • Current Certified Nursing Assistant certification
    • Basic Life Support certification.
    • Customer service skills with the ability to work effectively and positively with a variety of patients, employees, departments, and the public.
    • Organizational skills and attention to detail.
    Language Skills

    Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before customers, patients, families and employees of the organization.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; talk and hear; and use hands to finger, handle or feel.

    The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

    Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

    May be exposed to infectious diseases and occupational dangers like accidental needle pricks. Must be able to withstand physical and emotional stress.

    The intern program normally takes place through the months of June and July.
