- Administrates chemotherapy, biologic and immunotherapeutic agents, blood and blood products,
- Assist on other non-oncology infusions and injections used in the treatment of chronic medical and hematologic oncologic disorders.
- Understanding the principles of chemotherapy and immunotherapy and the various chemotherapeutic agents
- Demonstrates a thorough understanding of the management of patients receiving chemotherapy/immunotherapy, toxicity management, and oncologic emergencies.
- Demonstrates excellent communication skills in communicating with the patient, family, co-workers and interdisciplinary team members.
- Participates in research activities and or identifies research studies applicable to clinical practice
- Will triage patient problems and assist in the evaluation of symptoms and initiate interventions in collaboration with Oncology or referring medical providers.
- Assesses a patient's physical and emotional status as well as the patient's and family's knowledge of the disease and its management through the continuum of treatment.
- Verify and coordinate future treatment appointments in collaboration with the ordering provider and the patient.
- Understands current and changing needs in healthcare and advances in medical treatments.
- Participates in research activities and/or identifies research studies as applicable to clinical practice.
- Performs physical and psychosocial assessments for patients being treated in the Infusion clinic.
- Flexibility as needed to meet the workload demands of the clinic.
- Maintain a current Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Chemotherapy and immunotherapy Provider card.

The Registered Nurse (Oncology) Oncology Clinic, Ambulatory Care Infusion Clinics (ACIC) reports directly to the Hematology-Oncology Nurse Manager or designee.
The Registered Nurse (Oncology) provides direct and indirect nursing care to patients and families in the Oncology Clinic, Ambulatory Care Infusion Clinics (ACIC), The position requires independent judgment and nursing actions, flexibility, organizational skills, and the ability to utilize an interdisciplinary approach in the provision of nursing care. Plan and coordinate health education related to chemotherapy and infusions, including but not limited to home care following chemotherapy or infusions, vascular access types, neutropenic precautions and how to access care on off tours and weekends.
The Registered Nurse (Oncology) Clinic, Ambulatory Care Infusion Clinics (ACIC) provides care and counseling of persons to promote and maintain health and the prevention of illness and injury based upon the nursing process, which includes systematic data gathering, assessment, appropriate nursing judgment, and evaluation of human responses to actual or potential health problems through such services as case finding, health teaching, health counseling, provision of care supportive to or restorative of life and well-being, and executing medical regimens, including administering medications and treatments prescribed by a licensed or otherwise legally authorized provider. The nurse's primary commitment is to the patient, whether an individual, family, group, or community. The staff nurse interprets the philosophy and goals of the Nursing Service to others in the work setting; functions within established guidelines and demonstrates the ability to work effectively and develop therapeutic relationships with patients, their families and other professional and supportive personnel who provide patient care.
The duties and responsibilities for the Registered Nurse (Oncology) Clinic, Ambulatory Care Infusion Clinics (ACIC) include but not limited to:
Paid Time Off: 50 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year)
Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA
Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)
Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory
Work Schedule: Full - Time, Monday thru Friday 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM
