    Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Mechanical Specialist III to join our Mission Critical team. This is a telecommute role.

This person shall assist and augment day-to-day capacity of the Mechanical Engineering

team as a hydraulic modeler. Broad range of scope covers A) the hydraulic modeling of

piping systems, B) reviewing hydraulic models produced by consultants and providing

feedback, C) General Design Work as further detailed below.

This person will be responsible for but not limited to the following:

    A. Hydraulic modeling of piping systems

    • MS to review and understand owner's piping design guidelines and hydraulic constraints.
    • Piping types include, but not limited to, closed loop chilled water, open loop condenser water, make up water, fuel oil fill and DEF/urea fill, etc.
    • MS to understand and anticipate that hydronic end-use devices may involve custom owner designed fan & coil or heat exchange devices that may not be ubiquitous or widely known throughout industry.
    • MS shall review piping system design and be capable of providing rule of thumb feedback prior to modeling.
    • MS shall gather and validate necessary data for model input, including topography, pipe networks, pump curves, valve and heat exchanger curves, and operational parameters.
    • MS shall take the piping system design and input it into the hydraulic modeling tool of the owner's choice (Pipeflo and/or AFT Fathom) accurately pulling dimensions from PDFs, CAD, or Revit.
    • MS shall be capable of identifying key failure scenarios that require analysis and quickly add the scenarios to the model
    • Contractor to assist in densifying hydronic loads when necessary by employing creativity and ingenuity that may require 'thinking outside the box'.
    • MS shall calibrate models to ensure they accurately represent real-world conditions after construction and commissioning has been completed.
    • Run simulations to evaluate system performance, predict potential scenarios, and identify bottlenecks or vulnerabilities.
    • Assess a system's capacity under various demands, flow conditions, and water quality parameters.
    • Analyze water pressure, flow rates, velocities, and potential for water hammer.
    • Propose and evaluate design solutions for system expansion, rehabilitation, or new construction.
    • Model proposed scenarios to identify and optimize pipe sizing, pump selection, and storage facility requirements.
    • Evaluate failure scenarios of dual flowpath systems to analyze resilience and identify single points of failure.
    • Prepare and communicate clear and concise technical reports, documentation, and presentations summarizing modeling results and design recommendations.
    • Effectively collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure modeling goals align with project requirements.
    • Present modeling findings to external parties and stakeholders, as needed.

    B. Review hydraulic models produced by consultants and provide feedback

    • MS shall peer review A/E design consultants' hydraulic model deliverables and provide comments & resolutions in accordance with established engineering standards and Owner requirements.
    • Flag issues or deviations and work with A/E consultants on remediation or improvements.
    • Assist in developing scopes of work to procure hydraulic modeling services from A/E consultants.

    C. General design work

    • MS shall be proficient in Pipeflo and AFT Fathom
    • Proficiency in engineering drafting tools (AutoCAD, Bluebeam Revu, and Revit) is required
    • Proficiency in Bentley AutoPipe, Star-CCM+, ANSYS/Fluent, MicroFlo, and/or 6Sigma is highly desirable.
    • Create general sketches, docs, spreadsheets and/or presentations where needed.
    • If the candidate has Pipe Stress Analysis and/or CFD experience (see above), the additional scope would be similar to the hydraulic modeling scope described above in these additional areas.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Requirements:

    • BA/BS in Mechanical Engineering + 4 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
    • Experience coordinating scope with multiple discipline trades (Architecture, telecom, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and structural)
    • Experience with data center projects inside of the US

    Preferred Requirement

    • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering is preferred
    • Must be able to work independently with little or no supervision
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience, with at least 2 years of experience in data center projects
