    As a member of the Research department reporting to the Senior Director, Industry and Financial Analysis, the purpose of this position is to (1) assist other Research Department economists and the Chief Economist in analyzing the economics of regulatory and legislative issues and proposals; (2) monitor and analyze economic and financial developments affecting mutual funds, other financial institutions, and financial markets; (3) produce academic research related to mutual funds and/or exchange-traded funds (ETFs).


    Essential functions of this role include:
    Identifies developing industry issues and formulates research to address those issues
    Contributes to ICI research publications, comment letters to regulators, academic research and blogs.
    Monitors ongoing industry developments and prepares documents for senior staff that describe and analyze those developments.

    Develops and maintains contacts among individuals within the mutual fund industry, the financial community, regulators, academics and media as appropriate.

    Responds to requests for information and research from Institute staff and Institute members.
    Reviews regular data reports before their release.
    Reviews and prepares critiques of economic research relevant to the mutual fund or ETF industries.

    Develops and delivers presentations to Institute staff, committees, and members, as well as at public conferences and meetings, as necessary.

    Attends and participates in conferences dealing with topics of relevance to the Institute.
    Undertakes tasks and assignments as directed by the Senior Director of Industry and Financial Analysis or the Chief Economist.
    Participates in Research Department projects.
    Helps develop and maintain, and work with, large databases relating to mutual funds, ETFs, and the financial sector.

    Ph.
    D. in economics with concentration in macroeconomics or finance; a Ph.
    D. and minimum 7 years substantial professional experience and knowledge in analyzing economic, financial and/or policy issues relevant to the fund industry for the Senior Economist level position;
    Substantial knowledge of financial institutions and financial markets. Knowledge of international economics and international finance a plus.
    General understanding of financial markets and institutions.
    Knowledge of econometrics, forecasting techniques, and economic modeling.
    Excellent verbal and written communication.
    Excellent presentation skills.

    Superior analytical skills that can be translated into policy research and ability to communicate complex issues to a wide range of audiences in both written and oral form.
