    Intervention Specialist – Homeless and Runaway Youth

    Our Basic Center Program provides safe and welcoming spaces for youth aged 12 to 17. As a 24/7 operation, we offer shelter for up to 21 days, with a goal of Family Reunification. We are funded by grants from various Michigan departments, federal departments, community donations, family support, making our services free for youth and families. At FYI, we understand that many of our participants have experienced difficult life situations. We offer counseling, life skills training, and a wide range of recreational activities to help them discover their strengths, build resiliency, and envision a brighter future.     Position Description: The Intervention Specialist role reports to the Program Manager. As a compassionate and dedicated member of our team, you will be at the forefront of helping youth facing crisis, runaway, and homelessness situations. In this role, you'll supervise and guide up to 6 residents aged 12-17 through their daily structured schedules and activities, while facilitating group sessions, educational programs, life skills training, and recreational activities. Your trauma-informed, strengths-based support will make a difference as you assist clients and families in conflict resolution and crisis management. Handling the 24-hour crisis line, conducting phone and in-person assessments for prospective clients, and maintaining daily behavioral and observation documentation are integral parts of your responsibilities. You will also contribute to case management, help maintain the facility, and have opportunities to engage in community outreach.     Hours: Varies. Available shifts are 7am to 3pm, 3pm to 11pm. Preference given to individuals able to work afternoons and evenings. Ability to work occasional holidays is necessary.

    Compensation: 15.00 hourly to start, with shift differentials for weekend shifts. Time and a half will be paid for holidays.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • High School Diploma
    • 1-2 years' experience in a role directly or indirectly related to human/social services
    • Valid driver's license and ability to pass a driving record check with respect to any employee where driving is an essential function of the position.
    • Proof of a negative TB (tuberculosis) test
    • Ability to pass criminal and child abuse/neglect background checks
    • Exceptional communication skills, both written and oral
    • Computer proficiency
    • Flexibility and the capacity to prioritize tasks in a rapidly changing environment
    • Ability to multitask effectively in a fast paced, demanding environment
    • Ability to work with a challenging and diverse population
    • Ability to work evenings and/or weekends

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Associates or Bachelor's degree or current enrollment in a human services program, or in a related field (Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Education, Counseling, Mental Health, Family Services, Human Services, Criminal Justice)
    • 2+ years' experience in a role related to a human/social services with experience with adolescents
    • HMIS knowledge
    • Trauma Informed Care and Positive Youth Development knowledge
    • Conflict resolution skills
    • Experience conducting assessments
    • Possess high emotional intelligence skills
    • Exceptional personal integrity
