    Position: Beekeeping Assistant
    Reports To: Pollination Program Manager
    Job Type: Part Time (Up to 24 hours per week)

    Shift:Days - Thursday/Friday/Saturday of every week

    Position Description:

    The Pollination team Beekeeping Assistant position at Southall Farm and Inn is rewarding and challenging. We operate just over 140 honeybee colonies, perform weekly programming tours and honey tastings, harvest and bottle approximately 2000 lbs of honey per year and collaborate on projects with almost every department on property. Our pollination team assistant will be trained and entrusted to lend an extra hand to every member of the pollination team through a variety of tasks. Those tasks include packaging and delivering products for culinary and retail use, assembling woodenware, feeding colonies, harvesting honey, assisting on property tours/tastings, and other chores as needed. You will be prepared to work in different capacities depending on seasonal demands. At Southall farm we blend agricultural production, guest facing interaction, and aesthetic beauty to achieve a space where passionate farmers grow healthy food that is highlighted by talented chefs to be enjoyed by wonderful guests under the blue skies of middle Tennessee.

    Requirements:

    • The job will also require lifting objects up to 50 lbs. multiple times per day.
    • Operate and work around venomous insects in extreme hot and cold environments.
    • No known allergies to bee stings.
    • Ability to work Thursday/Friday/Saturday of every week.
    • Ability to work on hands and knees for extended periods of time.
    • Some of your daily work will be guests facing and you will be required to greet guests politely
    • Members of the pollination team will be asked to be outside rain or shine
    • You must demonstrate the ability to stay focused and efficient without supervision.
    • Good communication, teamwork, and a solution-based attitude are all MUSTS.

    Preference given to those with:

    • Previous beekeeping background
    • Familiarity with beekeeping operations and farming practices
    • Flexibility for weekends
    • Customer service experience

    Skills and Experience:

    • Valid driver's license
    • 1+ Season of beekeeping experience

    Education:

    • High school diploma or equivalent.
